Okay, I'm pretty new to ebay and I have a question about how shipping and handling works! So far, I've basically just sold a few books on half.com. I have a pair of shoes that I'm thinking of selling and I'm not sure if I should bother doing it on ebay or just in a local consignment shop. (Just because I know you ladies feel my pain, they are gorgeous green platforms by Barney's Co-op that I got this summer but they are too small to wear, booo.) It seems like people make the shipping costs much more expensive then they actually are? How much shipping would you charge for a pair of shoes?
I would probably charge $10 and include insurance ($1.30 for $100 coverage.) I rarely have an item under $20 sent to me uninsured, and never send out a package uninsured - insurance is required for any package I send because there are so many shysters out there.

I usually charge $10 for shoes and $12 for boots. I ship priority and pay the .50 cents to have it tracked. I don't insure unless it's something over $50.
I used to wonder about postage that turned out to be sometimes waay less than stated shipping costs until I started selling. I found out the hard way that shipping something fairly heavy (like boots or coats for example) to NY was going to cost a lot more than if the person winning the auction lived in my own state or at least in the same zone. You never know where your winning bidder lives so I definitely haven't figured it out yet. Some sellers state "shipping and handling" to cover any questions about postage.
Btw, if your shoes are "summer" shoes you may want to consider waiting till late winter, early spring to maximize your chances of getting a decent price. Good luck!
