What colors should I use for my wedding day?

i always thought i wanted chocolate brown and pink for my wedding day.

however, i have found that chocolate brown and pink have started to be used A LOT in the past year and i think i want something different now.

my mom and i have always loved wearing pale (dove) grey and light (blossom) pink together.  so i thought maybe i would do that... but for some reason- i'm not entirely sold on it.

what is everyone's thoughts?

any other suggestions?

My vote is for "blush and bashful" (from Steel Magnolias)  Just kidding... I think dove grey and blossom pink would be beautiful!

I think chocolate brown and pink can be pretty if used in the right shades.  I'm kinda wary about gray and pink as it might wash people out (if you are thinking dresses) plus it might be hard to find for a fall wedding.

my thoughts are this...

i love brown and pink.  i used brown and pink for my wedding last year.  it has definitely become extremely popular for weddings...possibly to the point of being "overdone."

BUT...how many weddings have you personally had in the past year?  how many do you plan to have?  i guess i just see weddings as a sort of "one-shot deal" and i believe that you should do what makes you happy.  yes, brown and pink has become very trendy, but your very first statement was "i always thought i wanted chocolate brown and pink for my wedding" and you mentioned not being entirely sold on the grey and pink idea.  that tells me that you aren't being swayed by the brown and pink trend, but that it truly appeals to you.  i think (though, of course, i'm biased) that it looks really rich, and is feminine without upsetting the boys too much.   so i think you should do it if the only reason you're choosing other colors is to avoid being trendy.

that said, i do think grey and pink will look nice.  or...how about brown and blue or brown and turquoise?  those are really stunning too, and not as overdone.

I think you should go for brown and pink because like you said, you've always wanted it.  Who cares what everyone else does?  You only get one wedding day!

i just designed a wedding package that was blossom pink and pale gold. (chocolate brown was used as a small accent on certain pieces) i think the gold updates the brown a bit — although i still love pink and brown.

LOL! This was so going to be my response, and then I scrolled down!

I actually really like the grey idea. You don't see grey that often in weddings, and it will look really pretty if you accent with silver. When is your big day?

tell me about it! in the past year, 36 of my 52 wedding invitation clients used chocolate and pink for their wedding colors (and most of the others used some combination of green and pink!) -- i love the color combo, but i personally have been aching for a wedding trend change so i can work with some new colors! heh. :)

that said, i honestly think you should use whatever colors you want to use regardless of how popular they may be/seem. which is why i voted for brown and pink in your poll. :) while you may be seeing weddings in those colors everywhere, it's unlikely that most of your guests have (and even if they have, very few guests notice things like the color scheme at a wedding).

i think the dove/pink combo sounds nice. another thing to take into consideration when planning your colors is what color looks good on your bridal party - assuming that most people's color schemes really stem from what color the bridesmaids are wearing (and what color for flowers, etc). i chose teal for my wedding because it was flattering on all four of my bridesmaids who each had a different skin tone and hair color. dark brown tends to also be really flattering on most people, so that is probably a reason why it has gotten so popular!

a few color combinations that i'm just starting to see people using more frequently -

pale pink and burgundy/wine
light blue and deep green
aqua and silver/dove
chocolate brown and pale blue, pale green or yellow

Hmmm, I like all your choices!  My colors were peach and cobalt blue, but we sort of limited it to the flowers and the tableware.  The hotel where my reception was is known for having cobalt blue glasses, and they looked lovely with salmon colored roses :) My bridesmaids wore pale pink...and they looked very pretty - I wasn't a terribly "matchy" bride though!

I do really like the dove grey and pink combination...especially for end of summer...it's sort of a beachy palette.

I say pink and chocolate will be terrific and it is what you want.  It is your day my dear, not your guests:).

I think pink and brown is a lovely combo - fresh and sophisticated, and not too over the top feminine.

Grey and pink is a nice twist on that same feeling though - you could make it all shades of grey!  Charcoal (men can wear charcoal suits!), silver (good for ribbons/invites/decorations), dove (vests/ties with darker suits, also good for ribbons for flower arrangements, etc).  It would make finding things in your colors easy - in my experience if you pick a color with many tonal variations (like the green and rust we chose) you will spend waaaay too much time trying to track shit down.  Dove grey is a pretty easy to find color for wedding dresses too - either the dress itself or a sash that many have nowadays.

I would also consider both of these color concepts to be seasonless, which is also a big plus!

I voted pink/brown but if you do go with dove/pink I'd focus more on darker shades of gray like Elle said cause dove gray can wash a lot of completions out.  Whatever you do I'm sure it'll turn out gorgeous!

I love the idea of pink and grey.  I really like Elle's idea of using charcoal grey.  I think you can also do accents in silver and white too and mix up your pinks and use darker pinks, lighter pinks, and even a pretty burgundy if you wanted.  I think the idea of pink and grey is really pretty and soft and a little more unusual than pink and brown.

Whatever you decide will be beautiful...both are great color combinations.
