nitpicking ebay item bought
Permalink Closed

so i bought a kudra belt on ebay. it's a cute belt, but here is the pictures they listed:

it was listed in excellent condition, and i disagree. here is a picture of the belt, with leather marks where it looks like it's "rubbed" or whatever and a PEN MARK on the belt.

i'm pissed, because this wasn't listed in the auction. how should i word my letter to the seller?

here is what i have so far:

"Hi,

I just received this belt today, and while it is a cute belt, I am disappointed that it was not mentioned in the auction that there are marks all over the belt where the leather appears "rubbed" and also a pen mark, as pictured in the photo I attached. I would not have done a BIN or paid as much as I did had I known these things, and feel the item was misrepresented (since the item was listed in "excellent" condition)."

i don't know if i want to return the belt and ask for a refund (they state no returns in the auction" or just mention i will be leaving them negative feedback?

suggestions?

that's not ok. they should either take it back and refund you, or if you want to keep it, maybe they will give you a partial refund to compensate for the condition?

yeah, that's what i thought.

i just sent them an email asking for either to return the belt, or a partial refund.

thanks.

I would just write and tell them the problem. See what they say..and then respond with your course of action.

ok, they wrote back saying i could either return it or get a partial refund...

i'm undecided. what would be fair? the belt was $45 BIN (not including shipping), i was thinking of asking for $15. does that sound like too much? (it was $35 for bidding, not BIN)

If you return will they pay for shipping both ways? Do you want it in the condition it is in?

i didn't ask about the shipping...

i'm not sure if i want it or not. i like the idea of the belt, and it's not so bad on an outfit, just upclose it kinda looks "eh."

i'm indecisive :(

my SIL is here, and i think i'm going to see what she thinks upclose.

depends where the markings are - are they on the front?

If they're in a place that's super obvious (like the front near the buckle) then I'd ask for more back..otherwise $15 sounds reasonable.

they are near the front :/

i am thinking maybe i can get some leather conditioner and work magic on the belt? (hoping)

so maybe ask for 20 back? i guess i can always ask...

I would ask for $20 back because the stains/discoloring is in the front.

I have a Kudra bag and the leather is very much the same.  I'm going to try using some Method leather care wipes on it to see if that helps condition the bag a bit.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

ETA:  Okay, just tried out the method leather care wipes (from Target) and they definitely even out the tone of the leather.  DH also says that if you wanted, you could try mink oil, as it will darken the leather a little bit, make the tone more even, and keep it supple.

By the way, I think you should ask for $15-20 back.  I think if you were to buy it in the store, you'd get that much taken off the price easily.

ncshopper: thanks for the leather wipes tip! i bought them tonight and it did help even the belt out.

the seller agreed to $15, so all in all it worked out ok.
