asking about reserve price
Permalink Closed

I just received a message from a potential buyer about a swater I'm selling, and it said "How much is the reserve?"  Is that an okay thing for someone to ask me?  I feel like that shouldn't happen, but I haven't been ebaying for that long...

I don't think they are techincally supposed to ask you, but I guess I look at it like if they really want it & I want to sell it at that price - what would it hurt? If your opening bid is $10 but your reserve is $50, no matter what they bid it will go up to the reserve, not to their max bid - I guess basically what I'm saying is that if they aren't bidding against anyone else, even if their max is $100 it will give it to them at your reserve price. Does that make sense? So you really aren't losing anything by telling them - but maybe that's just me......

ETA: nevermind if you read this part already I mis-read the policy. Looks like there are no written rules about telling a buyer the reserve price if they ask....

I'm not a fan of reserve prices. I think you should just tell them. I don't see what it will hurt?

Thanks for weighing in, ladies.

I responded with the reserve price and said I was probably going to lower it anyway.
