PayPal alternate?
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone

I was reading through the PayPalsucks website and this site was listed as the top alternative to PP.  Has anyone used it?  Know anyone who has?

http://www.995merchantaccounts.com/

I really want to list some things but am scared after reading some of the stories on this board.  Would any of you agree to the following terms of sale if you saw them listed on something?

TERMS OF SALE:

(By BIDDING you agree to these terms)

  1. PAYMENT methods accepted are; Money Orders, Travelers Checks, Cashiers  Checks, and PayPal.  All WINNING bidders paying OTHER than PayPal may subtract $1.00 from your shipping cost as a thank you for NOT using THEIR service.

  2. If you prefer PayPal that is fine, but the $1.00 discount will not apply.  I MUST require insurance on any purchase of $25.00 and above when paying by PayPal.

  3. Payment is DUE within 7 days of auction end.

They must have been screwed over by Paypal in the past.  Paypal doesn't do anything to protect sellers and from what I've heard always sides with the buyer.  If they're feedback is good, I wouldn't have a problem agreeing to their terms of sale.  As the buyer, you totally have paypal on your side - the insurance is just to protect the seller since they need confirmation of delivery for paypal to help them, or insurance so when paypal sides with buyer in a dispute they don't lose their money.

I should have worded my posting better.  I was going to use that (first post) as my terms of sale if I do get the courage up to sell on eBay.

Oh!  I just re-read your post - I get it now !

I think I'd leave this part of the last sentence out

as a thank you for NOT using THEIR service

It sounds a little angry, not that you don't have RIGHT to be angry with paypal.  I just don't think it would make buyers very comfortable ...?

I'd also require insurance on every item, no matter the price, if the buyer uses Paypal.  It doesn't cost the buyer much and can save you alot of trouble and some cash if a dispute should ever arise.

Why not just leave paypal out as an option all together?

I would just either leave paypal off like laken suggested or require all purchases to have insurance on their item.  Maybe just include that as part of the shipping cost so that they don't have a choice to accept or reject it.

I agree. Why go out of your way to say that you don't like Paypal? I don't think it is necessary that you say anything.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions!  If I do sell I will take out the last sentence, when I typed it didn't seem so rude.  But- after re-reading it, and your comments, it's best left out.  AND- HAPPY FRIDAY!  Finally!
