I have decided that a pair of black lace-up boots (between ankle and mid-calf) are going to be my best, most flexible bet for new fall shoes. I dress very casually but clean, and I need something to wear to London. Right now, all I have are fatty, flat, slip-on MaryJanes from Clarks and two pairs of Cole Haan Air Baracas. The Air Baracas look nice with my skinnies, but they're not good in rainy weather. The MaryJanes barely look good with the boot-cuts, and their certainly not compatible with skinnies.
While I really want a pair of knee high boots too, I think I need to, first, get something that can be worn easily with skinnies and boot-cuts. That is why I've pulled together these.
Do you agree that this style is a good idea for my needs?
Which one do you like best (or do you have another suggestion)? Thanks.
I don't love the height of those, and I'm not sure you'll like them with bootcut jeans. It won't be very polished. What about something a bit more oxford-style?
Personally, I'd get the knee boots from Cole Haan that you really want. But I've never been a Doc Martin boot sort of girl, so take it with a grain of salt.
I think that in a pinch, you could wear the knee boots with bootleg jeans (most boot legs will fit over the boots.) It would make it look like you are wearing those flat Chelsea boots that everyone seems so in love with right now. I've done it before and it's not too uncomfortable to wear them this way (remember to bring socks that come up to the knees to keep the top of the boot from irritating your calf.) And you already know that they will work with skinny jeans. I think you would get more mileage out of the knee boots too. I will only pack 2 pairs of shoes on my trips, so I look for pairs that I can wear in as many situations as possible. I think you could wear the knee boots during the day for sight seeing and in the evening when you go out to dinner/drinks. I don't think the lace up boots look sophisticated enough to wear to a nicer (non chain) restaurant. With the sleeker knee boots you could get away with a pair of jeans and a nice top.
Love Born Leonis & tall boots by Cole Haan. Those are different, I don't think you can substitute, if you decide to get only 1 pair - I'd go with the classec tall by Cole Haan, looks great! If you get 2 styles, short & tall - Born Leonis have this toe stitching that makes it cool, sporty & elegant...Kind of vintage looking.

Thanks for your input! We'll see how it goes. I ordered all 3 lace-ups just to try. With the way shoe searches have been going for me lately, there's a chance I could send them all back!
