Jeans with heels

Almost every time I try on jeans with a pair of heels, I feel like something's off. It could be the jeans. It could be the heels. It could be just me being too unsure.

Anyone have or know where I can get some good, reliable, specific tips for pairing different types of jeans with different types of heels? Thank you.

I only wear heels with long jeans. I think it looks best when your jeans are just above the ground with the heels on (that goes for boot cut or a wider leg -- skinnies can look good bunched at your ankle.)

I have worn fancy metallic dressy evening heels with jeans, platform clogs, platform sandals, high heeled boots, etc., using this one rule. Any shorter on the pants and I think it cuts off the line of the leg and looks awkward.

I can't do the heels and skinnie jeans look. I wish I could, but I just feel like I look like I'm trying too hard (but that's completely my personal hang up I like the look on other people.) I think finding just the right length in skinnie or straight leg jeans can be really difficult. I'm like D, I don't care for bunching on the leg, but it's just as easy to go too short and make your legs look stumpy too.

Charlize Theron gets it right IMO.  But how she makes it through an airport in those stilletos, I'll never understand.

I'm comfortable with bootleg and heels. In fact, Hudson jeans and cute heels is kind of my go to night look when I want to look put together but not too dressy. I hem my "heel" jeans so that the hem falls just above the ground when I have on heels.

To me, this look is too short.

But this is the right hem.

You could also try cuffing your jeans.  Boyfriend and skinnie jeans seem to work best with a cuff.

I like this look because the shoe is strong and the rest of the look is anchored by the blazer.  I think the lower stap on the shoe also helps to give a nice line to the leg without breaking it up like a higher ankle strap would do.

This also works for me because you only see a bit of skin, but enough of her foot to create a long line.

I think it depends too much on the shoe and the jean leg cut/length to give you tips. Sometimes things that should work - don't.

I too tend to wear heels with bootcut/trouser-leg styles, and skinny/straight leg with flats. The ankle bunched look is too teenybopperish for me, but I wear ankle-length skinnies with a more casual heel like a wedge, in addition to flats.

Thank you for your input. One thing I notice, for the rolled up jeans and heels look, heels that have a delicate, very feminine appearance look best (like d'orsays or shoes with slightly curvier uppers). I think Suasoria's right. Each individual pair of jeans, each individual pair of shoes matter. That's probably what my problem is. And, because my wardrobe is extremely limited, chances are good I do not have the right pieces. Thanks!
