I love to sew and in the latest Burda Style sewing magazine, there is this dress patter.  When I first looked at it I thought it was really cute and vintage-y looking.  Now I am wondering if it is too costumey or downright terrible.  What do you think?

Not a fan, the button placket(?) looks like an after thought, and the pleats and belted drop waist, it just looks thrown together...

I'm sorry, it looks like vintage but in a bad way.

Thank you. I kind of felt it was bad. I will pass.

Could you make it without the two separate colors, the attached belt and that vertical button thing? I realize that it would just be a drop waist pleated dress, but with the Great Gatsby movie opening in a bit, they are predicting that 1920 shapes will make a huge come back. As it is it reminds me of Wonder Woman on her day off for some reason. But in a solid color and with a simpler look (no buttons or white stripe, no separate collar and no belt) it could work. I think that shape in all white could be pretty.

Design is a bit too gimmicky.

I love the vintage style, but the color blocking is too much. I would go with one color with perhaps a contrasting fabric for the belt.

That's a good idea to modernize it a bit.  Maybe a shot of neon or a deeper shade of the solid color?  I could see it in all white with a neon pink shot across the waist or navy blue with a sky blue fabric around  the waist.

I think it could be cute in one color.  There is a lot going on w/the details and cut as is.  However, it's still a hard shape to wear!  Drop waist pleats look good on very few people.

It's a pass as is, and I don't see any reason to make it work. There are better drop-waist dresses, I'm sure.
