Hi! I was hoping you guys could help me come up with some creative ideas- or tell me some you have heard of before.
My friend is in her mid-thirties and getting married for a 2nd time. Her and her fiancee have decided that they are going away with his two sons and getting married one weekend and then having a small party when they get back. Her sister insists on throwing a "couple" shower for them- even though they don't want any gifts. I suggested choosing a charity that everyone could donate to in their name instead (she hasn't responded yet).
She wanted to do a "theme" to the party- any ideas?
Now I don't know if this appropriate, but my favorite couples shower was a Liquor and Lace themed shower. It was stock the bar for the groom and then Lingerie for the bride. Of course the groom got some interesting things too!
- a "Sunday brunch" shower (serve coffee, pancakes, omlets, Bloody Marys): everyone gets them something for the kitchen (I dunno if they need kitchen stuff, but...)
- something I found on Target's ClubWedd site:
ROAST 'EM Great for couple's showers.
How to play: Prepare strips of paper that describe situations in the couple's history as well as scenes that might arise in the future. Example: "John tells Jane he can't go to the play with her because he made plans to play darts with the boys" or "Jane calls John from San Diego to say she's extended her trip by two weeks" or "Jane and John discuss baby names a month before the due date." John and Jane get front-row seats (with a nice bottle of wine to dull the pain) and guests come onstage in pairs, draw a slip, read it aloud, and act out the scene as John and Jane. Incorporate the future bride's and groom's unique tics and mannerisms, as well as characteristic phrases and expressions. John and Jane get score cards--from 0 to 10--with which they will rate each duo's performance for accuracy.
Pointers: The tone should be naughty, not vicious.
- something I found on a another forum:
"A family friend put on a "honey-do" shower and the guy had registered at home depot. He got LOTS of stuff... a lawn mower, saw, tools, barbecue stuff, poker table, etc."
