So I'm wearing Spanx for the first time this Sunday. I have a sweater dress for my nephew's Christening and am a little (OK a lot, sorry if TMI) bloated so I bought a pair of Spanx to just smooth me out under the dress. They are the Power Panties. I have questions. So many questions.
Do you wear anything under the Spanx? Can I? Do you wear tights over or under the Spanx? Are they supposed to be really tight? Because mine are more supportive (like a well fitted bra feels) than tight.
I feel sort of silly asking, but I figured that the people here would know best. Thanks!
I think if they have a gusset, you don't need to wear another pair of underwear underneath. If there's not a gusset, I'd wear a thong.
About the tights- I don't know that it matters, but if you wear the tights under, it might help the tights from creeping down if you have that problem.
I don't think they're supposed to be really tight. Maybe you could try on a size down just to compare? But they definitely shouldn't be uncomfortable or pinchy, so it sounds to be like yours are right. If they were too big, I don't think you'd feel that support.

Agreed with Kelly, if a gusset no need, if not, wear something light (or nothing at all). I don't usually layer them with tights bc my tights tend to have that supportive bit so I don't need it or I buy the Spanx tights. I have found that the older spanx are tighter and suck you in while the newer stuff is just slightly supportive, more of a control top effect than a 'I just lost 10 lbs' look.
I was just thinking, you might want to wear your tights underneath either way - if you wear them over top, they might slide on the Spanx themselves and creep down.

Ladies, I'd insert my question into this theme: which spanx would you recommend, which shape? I've never worn them, used to design those like 15 years ago...but consider to buy a pair...so...any thoughts, suggestions?
Yana - People typically buy them based on what body areas they'd like to control and what type of outfit(s) they expect to wear over the shapewear. If you can or want to buy only 1 piece, you decide which will most likely fulfill most of your needs most of the time.
Aha, thanx. I thought the tummy....my concern is: most of them have "legs", you know like shorts, so...I'm not used to that, does it not show under the dress/pants?
I have a few of these below and they're not terribly uncomfortable - I thought I'd try something cheaper to see if I could tolerate them before laying down the $$ for Spanx
Yana - If you are looking for real suck-in-your-gut power, I like Miraclesuit stuff. The ones I have don't have legs, they're just like high-waisted underwear. If you just want something mildly controlling like Spanx, but still without legs, Yummie Tummie makes underwear.

I wore them Sunday for the Christening under my sweater dress. They were so comfortable I didn't even remember that I had them on. They did help smooth out the bloating problem I was having, but other than that, I didn't see much of a difference. Granted, I'm in pretty good shape to being with, but the actresses who wear them to award shows are in MUCH better shape than me and they still wear them. I'll probably use mine again when I wear sweater dresses. It was worth the $28 I spent on them, but I was really glad that I didn't get the higher power or another of the more expensive versions.
I will say that the one I got was perfect for my short waisted torso. I think that the versions that extend up on the body would have been too long on my body and might have bunched up or rolled down during the day. If you're short waisted like me, I'd recommend the regular Power Panties. They came up just past my belly button and stayed there all day without digging in to the body (they hit me just about the same place as my tight top did.)
