Hi everyone! As many of you know, I just relocated to New England and am starting to stock up on heavier clothing to keep me warm in the winter. I have been told that I need to get a mid-length down jacket. Lands End is having F&F so I am looking at these, but are they frumpy?? I refuse to get one longer than knee length and I would get it in black FWIW. Although I am buying it more for practicicality than style, I still don't want to look bad! So, do you like any of these and if so, which one:
1) this one but it is not as long, only comes to the thigh:
2) this one that has fleece lining - simple and basic and a bit longer:
3) or this one, which has a fur lined hood and a slight sheen. not sure if that would be cute or not and i don't feel well enough to go look at it (nor do i have the time):
Thanks, D! I think this one too long for me though - I'm only 5 ft tall and the proportions wouldn't look right, but it's cute. LE F&F is only 25% but I'll also get $ back through ebates. I buy a lot of my kids clothes there so I'm going to place a big order. I have found their jackets for kids to be really good quality for the price, which is why I'm considering buying a jacket there for myself (I don't normally shop there for myself, as the clothes for adults seem a bit matronly IMO) just for running errands. I've ruled out #1 but am still undecided about 2 and 3. Thanks for your help though! My only issue with # 3 is that it says it has a shine to it; not sure if I want that. Leanings towards 2.
I'm not a fan of down coats personally. But if I had to choose, I'd go with #3 because it has some uniqueness to it.
Honestly, I get cold easily and I live in Chicago (where cold takes on a new meaning during January.) I wear a knee length wool coat with thinsalite (or however you spell it.) Sometimes when it's really cold I'll layer with a fleece under the coat. In fact, layers are you best friend come winter.
Thanks, Boots. I have a wool coat with thinsulate from J Crew, (but it is long and a bit heavy). This reminds me that I need to get at least one fleece jacket - I don't have any!
I vote for #3. I have a sort of hybrid between 2 & 3. It has no fur but it is knee-length with an oversized pillow collar and it's a charcoal color. I believe it's by steve by searle. They have some cuter, less ordinary down options IMO. I agree down is not the cutest, but it is a lifesaver for me during winters. You won't regret a down coat out in New England!

I swear their prices skyrocketed. I do not remember paying that much for my coat. Actually, I'm SURE I didn't. I wouldn't. I will keep an eye out for other options that are cute and convenient.
