help styling this maxi skirt

I have this skirt, and I love it.  I love the color, I love the pleats.  However, I am having trouble styling it.  I feel like it looks hula skirty when i wear it.  So far, I've tried just wearing a pretty plain black t shirt with it to dress it down.

I see grays looking nice with it too. A loose gray top with a black belt and black boots would look cool with or without a jacket. I really like wearing maxi lengths with low heeled boots. The boots help tone down the dressiness of the length, and make it more casual and comfortable.
