Hi all, looong time since I've been here, if anyone remembers me at all! Anyway, I'm getting married mid-November in upstate New York, and I need to figure out what I can wear over my dress. Not for the ceremony or anything, but between photos outside and whatever else. I knew there was only one place to turn...so here I am.

the dress: spt00026_1.jpg spt00026_5.jpg

the shoes: 115-231-1-l.jpg

I don't really have colors, per se, as I don't have a wedding party. The flowers will be oranges, greens, deep purples and maybe some red thrown in.

I was thinking a cardigan, but I can't find one that's right, and I'm not sure it wouldn't look silly, even though I've seen pics of other brides in gowns and cardigans and thought it was really cute.

Help me, STers!

of course I remember you! congratulations on your pending nuptuals!

let me poke around and see what I can find...

of the cardigans you saw on brides that you liked, was there a certain look you liked? white cardigan or colored?

Thanks!

Personally, I think the colored cardigan thing is cute. But some people (my aunt in particular) thinks it's awful. So...ugh. I was thinking if I could find a cute metallic-y cardigan or wrap that could work, but I haven't had any luck.

My cousin got married on a drizzly April day and she wore a deep blue (velvet?) cape that was the same length as her dress. It was super pretty.

I hate to use this picture because this looks kind of cheesy IMO and hers did not, but it's the closest I could find. Hers did not have a fur trim, I'm not sure whether it had a hood, and her dress wasn't as poofy as the one in this picture - it was about the same size as yours looks.

What about seeing if you could rent just tuxedo jacket to through over your shoulders? As if you just threw on your new husband's jacket. But this way he wouldn't be cold either.

beautiful dress and shoes by the way!

I envision something fluffy...  I also think a shrug would be best since it wouldn't cover up the beautiful detail on the back of your dress.

Bernie of New York 'Marabou' Shrug

Cara Accessories Faux Fur Shrug

I also think a cashmere or mohair shrug would look cool. If I could find a bronze mohair shrug I think that could look really pretty...

My first thought when reading this was to get a really nice thick white or ivory cashmere shawl. Love the dress and the shoes are to die for btw!

Try checking out bhldn.com. They're an offshoot of Anthro, and dedicated to all things wedding. I bet they might have something that would work.

Ooh, D, I kind of like the idea of something fluffy. I've been searching etsy for shrugs but they're all so openly knit (you know what I mean) that I think I'd still be chilly. The average temp is in the 40s.

Boots, he'll be wearing a suit, not a tux, so I think it might look odd if I'm wearing a tux jacket?

Linsdayp, the problem with bhldn is that I don't really want to spend $200 or more. This wedding is costing me enough as it is!

Yeah, a tux jacket would look odd if it didn't match the groom's.

I'm liking the fluffy idea too. Do you know a tailor or know someone who has one that they trust? You could go to Jo Ann Fabrics (or whatever shop you have near you that sells material) find a fabric that you like and have it made into a shawl for you. They have fluffy material that just needs a lining.

I can't see something like this being too difficult for an experienced tailor to make.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Enjoy every second!!!

I agree with D's suggestion - something in this area. Also, faux furs are very in now, you can get a jacket, doesn't necessarily need to be white, in between will do, as well, as long after your wedding.

ENJOY YOUR DAY!

Thanks everyone. Problem solved! I forgot that my aunt is a crazy knitting machine (duh!) and at my shower this weekend she offered to make something for me! So now I just have to find something I like so that she can duplicate it.

So now the question is: shrug or little capelet? Sleeves? Aah I am so sick of making decisions.

I would do a little white angora shrug with sleeves.
