I have been seeing colored denim jeans popping up all over the internet on blogs and shopping sites. I really like the green colored denim and have found some for a really reasonable price at JcPenney. I want to get these to try out this trend since they are so cheap, but the only thing holding me back is the podunk town I live in. I haven't seen anyone else wearing these and I am afraid of the looks I might get. IT takes awhile for things to catch on in this South Alabama town of 6,000. Should I just throw caution to the wind and get them if I like them?

I think you can totally do colored denim. It's still just jeans in a familiar jean shape. The only difference is they're a brighter color. Here are some pics of celebs wearing colorful jeans. As long as you stay away from Fergie's getup, you'll be okay.
I recommend going to Polyvore and playing around with a pair of jeans in the color you want to buy. Try to come up with some different outfits around them, using items similar to what you already have (most of them should be basic items anyway - - because the jeans are going to provide the uniqueness factor). Also, look at others' sets with colorful jeans.
Any time I want to branch out with unique color or print, I aim for the bottom first (skirts, shorts, pants, etc.).
I say wear them! So what if people stare? I'll bet that there are plenty of people walking around your town in sweat pants, ill fitting tank tops and flip flops. They want to look sloppy and you want to look cute. To each their own, right? One of my "fashion" resolutions this year was wearing what I want to wear regardless of how other people around me are dressed (in other words not to dress down in order to fit in.) Life is too short not to do something as simple as dress the way you want to, right?

Oh, the stories I could tell you. I am going to check them out on Wednesday. Thank everyone.

I went to JCP this morning and bought them. I LOVE them!!! I figure if JCP is selling them in the small podunk town I work in, I must not be too far ahead of the fashion curve.

Do it! Life is short, wear what you want. I live in a 'burb of Atlanta - nowhere near "small town" size - but you should see the looks I sometimes get when I wear my fun shoes...some looks are approving and some are disapproving. But I don't care- I'd rather have some fun than look like all the other boring, conservative wives and mothers in my 'burb.

I agree!

Yes! Fashion is supposed to be fun. And I'll bet most of those looks are envious, not really disapproving. They just wish that they had the style to rock those shoes.
Well, there was the old woman at the grocery store who threw me disapproving looks *every* time we passed each other in the aisles...and the guy at the yogurt place who looked up and the whipped his head away...and refused to look back again...just a couple of examples. But I really don't care. If that's the worst trouble I can get into, then it's all pretty harmless fun. :)

LOL Boots...the shoes *were* a little crazy. Maybe he just got scared. Seemed like he had a stiff neck from refusing to look in my direction after the first glance. :)

I'm all for it! Try something new if it appeals to you. Who knows, you might just start a new trend in your area. When I first moved to Ohio, I had just gone through a horrendous break-up, so naturally I took it out on my hair and bleached out two thin stripes on either side of my hip-length hair. I got crazy looks and comments all the time, but wouldn't you know...about 6 months later...everyone was sporting my hairdo! :)
