I signed up for a total body toning class at the local YMCA. I've never attended an excerise class before. I've always run on a treadmill and do core/strength training in my basement. I usually wear an old t-shirt and less than nice yoga pants, but I can't wear that in public.
What do you wear to a class? If I get myself a new set of yoga pants and wear a new t-shirt do you think it'll look OK? Are yoga pants even good to wear when I'm doing toning excerises (weights, bars, luges, squats, etc)? Or do I need excerise pants that are more like leggings?
I care more about function than looking cute in this instance.
I wear yoga pants for everything, and never have I had an instructor upset with me because they couldn't see the definition of my calves. I think yoga pants will be fine.
As for a tee shirt, just make sure that as you bend around it isn't too loose that it might come up as you are bending down and around, or too short that it will bare yout tummy when you reach up.
I think you'd have to be bouncing around pertty hard to lose your pants! But, I will say that it is worth the time to make sure you wear your best fitting ones. I threw any old pair into a bag and went to a pilates class at work, and my pants were too high, so they would roll down in certain poses and I'm sure it wasn't pretty.
I don't think there would be a problem with fitted yoga pants--even with the flare at the bottom. I prefer the capri length yoga pants/exercise bottoms, with a slimmer cut. Like these
For exercise wear, my favorites areTarget and Gap.
You can get tshirts that are made for active wear. They're fitted and usually made of fabric that wicks away sweat.
If I'm doing a lot of moving around and I'm feeling confident, I'll wear my spandex racerback tank. It holds like a bra (has a shelf bra in it), and it looks sleek with matching cropped bottoms. I like not having to fiddle with loose fabric or wondering if one of the girls is going to pop out of a too-low neckline. Another thing I like about it is that there are no straps to fall off my left shoulder (which is smaller and lower than my right).
Greendiamond- I see that gap now makes a lowrise workout pant. Might be just the thing! :)
I get paranoid about my yoga pants coming down because of a 5K I ran a few years ago. For some reason they kept slipping down and I spent a good portion of the race hiking them up. It was also really cold, my nose was running and I was dripping wet from getting pelted with freezing rain. AND that's when they took my photo for the local paper.
