My dog has the funny habit of rubbing around on my used hair towels and it actually keeps her pretty fresh and is pretty funny too (she'll beg for me to take down my towel turban or will pull the towel down if left anywhere within her reach).
But, I find that keeping her well brushed works well. A lot of dander will come with the hair and does the trick.
How often do you bathe your dog? I can't do it too often because it dries out her skin so terribly (the soap does, water does not - I've tried so many kinds of soaps but haven't found one that is gentle enough to use regularly). If she plays around in a lake it seems to lift the oils/smells but not dry out her skin. Living in Michigan I'm limited to the number of months I can rely on this method though...
I've tried these baby wipe type things for pets, and that didn't do a thing. The cat doesn't like them either.
I have been bathing the puppies once a month and brushing once or twice a week they're very soft and only get dog smell when they get wet. I have been brushing their teeth once a week too (or at least try to.) I use vanilla dog toothpaste and a rubber finger cap toothbrush.

I think some dogs are just stinkier than others. For example, I haven't bathed Traci in months. It was seriously probably late July. And she smells fine - even good! But I know plenty of dogs who need baths on a strict schedule.
There are pet "colognes" and deodorizing sprays, but I have never used them so I don't know how well they work.
There's also waterless shampoo, which I've used several times with pretty good results. I honestly don't know how well it deals with smell (like I said Traci isn't very stinky) but I do know it does a pretty good job of getting dirt off between baths.

GD he is a beagle and I have noticed he does some white flakes on his fur when I brush him. I notice it when he is sleeping in our room at night, when I get up to go to the restroom
Thanks Kelly for the waterless shampoo I have been wanting to try it... where do you get this one at?

I got that picture from the Petsmart website, but I think places like Walmart and Target might have something similar. I know wherever I got mine, it wasn't at Petsmart.

We have a GS and she's indoors at all times. She stinks quickly! She has skin allergies so the vet gave us a shampoo to wash her every week with. We haven't used it yet, hoping it helps her smell and skin. She also has white flakes (dander?) on her hair when I brush her. Don't know if that's normal, or you should keep a look out for your dog also having allergies? Those sprays don't work, don't waste your money, cuz I already have for you!
