Is there a way to cheaply ship a very large framed picture?
Permalink Closed

Let me just preface this by saying, I'm an idiot. I need to start doing my homework before making purchases. disbelief I don't know why I didn't think about this beforehand...

I bought a large framed picture from art.com. Originally I was going to buy just the print & have it framed locally, but it was cheaper to buy it framed from them. Well, it came and I'm just not loving it (it's the Pates Baroni pic, which I got for my kitchen) - I think I need to stay away from mass produced art. Besides that, they didn't do an excellent job on the framing. The corners aren't joined very cleanly. I'm also not convinced the frame is made from solid wood, even though they claim it is. I would like to send it back, but I nearly had a heart attack when I looked up shipping quotes. The cheapest place to ship it would be FedEx, but it would cost $77! That's ridiculous! It came in a very large box (65"x45"x3") but it doesn't weight that much - maybe less than 20 pounds when packaged.

Is there any other place I could try for cheap shipping? UPS would cost like $100, it's too big for USPS. Should I just get over it and spend the $77 to send it back? Call art.com and express my dissatisfaction & see if they'll pay to ship it back?

Thanks!

This is definitely where I'd start. They have been pretty good to me in the past, so it's worth a try.

I agree.  Shipping something that size is pretty expensive.  Maybe they can send you a preprinted return label that cost less than Fed Ex.

Thanks ladies! I'll try that, although last night I was reading reviews on epinions, and a lot of people said they had to pay for return shipping themselves, even when it was art.com's mistake. Not too promising... Otherwise, my friend's boyfriend works at Fedex - maybe he can use his discount?

This will be the first & last time I ever order framed art online! Do high volume shippers get shipping discounts? S&H to ship to me was only about $20, so I don't see why it would cost me $77. furious
