Laila loves her Kong toys with peanut butter and I throw some of her Zukes treats in it too... I throw it in the dishwasher to clean it. They gave that as an option on the packaging when I bought it.

Personally, I hate squeaky toys because she literally stares at us and continuously squeaks her toy over and over just to be a brat... But then tears the toy apart to get the squeaker out....

And we bought her rubber balls to play with. Tennis balls she destroys but she never destroyed her rubber ones. I bought them at some pet boutique & they supported some charity....

And I know you said you wanted to wait on collars, leashes for when they are bigger but I thought I would give you a heads up that gilt groupe has Ella dish collars on their site right now.... Super cute stylish doggie stuff!

Have fun with your new pups!

xtina - good point on the tennis balls. they have little mouths too, so the slobber factor will probably be reduced.

I only use natural peanut butter, so I'm set with that, and I love the idea of freezing the kong - thanks for sharing!

bex - what are zukes?  and thanks for reminding me to read the package wink I love being able to stick things in the dishwasher.

and thanks for letting me know about the dog collars.  I'm headed over to gilt right now.  ETA: Boo! all the collars are sold out! And you're right - they were very cute! cry

I've actually been looking on etsy -- it's so hard for me to hold off on finding some cool collars for them!  I'd love to get Flora one of these collars for the holidays, but I've been holding off:
Buddy G Ladybug Charms Dog Collar Buddy G's Austrian Crystal and Bone Charm Dog CollarBuddy G's Ultimate 2-row Bling 6-inch Collarand maybe one for Charlie:
Buddy G's Petite Bone 6-inch Chain CollarBuddy G's Austrian Crystal Bow on Mesh Collar

@D- Zukes are treats that are more natural and not full of weird processed crap... I get them at our little natural pet shop in our neighborhood. Laila had to have knee surgery (and FYI on insurance... Get it as soon as you take possession of your pups otherwise they start listing things as "pre existing" and you'll end up paying $5k out of pocket in the first year for knee surgery.... Oh wait that was us!) and Zukes also has these awesome treats with glucosamine in them which she loves and helps her knee and joints. We also are big proponents of coconut oil for her as well... Helps her joints also and makes her skin & coat healthy and shiny....

And just another fun product... Kiehls makes doggie shampoo, conditioner and spray that I love for her! Something else to check out.

Happy doggie shopping!

Good to know. I plan to make most of their food unless it's super natural pre-made stuff (found some all natural peanut butter/banana treats at costco.)

Oooh - I'm gonna check out the Kiehls! I've yet to buy shampoo.

Also, did you know montmorency cherries are good for dog joint health? http://overbyfarm.com/

I've looked up insurance and fully intend to get it.  What insurance carrier are you using?

D, I don't know if you've bought dog tags yet, but etsy has some super cute tags - much better than the ones you get at the machines in pet stores.

My dog loves Zukes treats, and Nature's Variety Instinct grain-free biscuits as well. Also, for those times when you can't make their food, you might look into raw. Izzy loves Stella & Chewy's (which I *think* is made in WI) as well as the Nature's Variety raw. I think raw is suitable for puppies, but I could be wrong.

Be careful with the raw hide. We gave Kona one in August when he was 3 months and it gave him the runs. Turns out he was too young to digest it properly. Check with your vet to see if Charlie & Flora can handle it.

I would stay away from rawhide. Dogs love it, but if your dog loves to swallow it (like mine), it can cause a big problem - it can get stuck in their insides and cause an obstruction. It can also pose a choking hazard, and a lot of rawhide in the stores comes from foreign countries (like Brazil) and apparently it can be contaminated with a lot of icky things, like salmonella and aresenic. I used to get them from my dog, but I stopped giving them to her. It's just not worth the risk, IMO.
