How do you measure your bra size? I'm looking for some new bras, and I know I need to go up a cup size because the part in the center doesn't lie against my breastbone. However, in looking at various bra sites (barenecessities.com, herroom.com, freshpair.com) I followed their sizing instructions and came up with 3 different sizes! How can that be correct? They all have different measurements to add to your band size - +0 if it's an even number, +2, or +4.
Thanks!

here's an ancient article on measuring for a bra http://stylethread.com/columns/june_columns/infocus_june.html
as far as adding to your band size, I have no idea about that... one rule of thumb is to get a slightly smaller band size you can hook tighter as it stretches out...

Well, I think most calculations aren't perfect. I think the bra size you get from your measurements is often only a ballpark. Like, if you measure at a 36C, then try on a 36C - but then look at it to see if it's fitting correctly. Is the band riding up? Is the cup wrinkling? Is the gore flush against your chest? If it's not fitting correctly in a 36C, then tweak it. Go up a cup size or down a band size or whatever until it fits right. So really, even if you get a totally wacky and totally wrong bra size from your calculations, you'll end up in the correct size if you just keep trying different sizes and looking at which areas aren't fitting correctly.
I think the Figleaves and HerRoom fitting info is helpful for the post-calculation tweaks.
