I am convinced that I do not look great in hats. DH disagrees. But, for 4th of July I will be spending about 5 days on the beach. I will definitely be slathering on the sunscreen, and spending a lot of time under the beach umbrella. But, I'd love a hat that will shade my face a little without looking like I'm wearing my grandmother's gardening hat.
I see a lot of panama hats in magazines right now. I think they're cute and very beach friendly. I also like fedoras. I guess I'm just not a floppy hat sort of girl. H&M had a few last time I was there. And FF21 has a decent selection of beach hats too.
I'll check F21 and H&M. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
I saw one I really liked on J Crew, but it was $60, which seems like too much for a straw hat! Target only had Fedora's. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is, just that there is a difference. The brim, perhaps?
I saw a bunch of cute hats in the men's section at H&M this weekend. I might just go back for a white one myself! I didn't notice any in the women's section, FYI.
I thought I didn't look good in hats either but then I discovered which hats work and which don't.
What does not work are hats with a front and back, like fedoras, newsboy caps, or baseball caps. If there's anything asymmetrical about the brim, it doesn't look good on me.
What works are hats that are totally symmetrical all around like cloches, bowlers, berets, or the hat Aurora posted. They have to look like a perfect circle from above, in other words. This was a revelation to me.
So maybe it's a matter of looking at different shapes until you find something that works?
Walmart sells some floppy, full coverage hats for cheap. Buy some thick ribbon and tie it around the brim to add some flair. Looks just like the expensive wide brim staw hats and for a fraction of the cost!
