Just an FYI, but some ppl might be hurt that you didn't tell them personally. A FB update is kinda impersonal. Maybe you want to give a couple of close friends/relatives a call after the fact and before you update FB. I found out a close friend was engaged via FB and it was a little odd.

No worries, immediate family and close friends will definitely know beforehand and won't find out via facebook. But there will definitely be some people who find out that way since we aren't making a big deal out of it. Maybe I'm weird but I just don't see it as a big deal. We've been living together for three years and everyone treats us like we're married already, so I just feel like we're going through the formalities of making it legal and permanent.
DH and I had a Justice of the Peace wedding and I think of it as being one of the best decisions I've ever made. Just from knowing you all these years on ST, it seems to me like this won't be a decision you'll regret. Congratulations, by the way! I'm really happy for you.
We had a wedding with over 250 people. Many of them were my m-i-l's friends who I had never met. I wish I had a small wedding and if I had to do it all over I would elope to Vegas. You will not regret not shelling out a ton of money for one night. So many people get wrapped up in the details of a wedding, but the important thing is the two of you and your marriage, not one day.
You know, you're so creative, Kenzie. You should take this chance and make some wedding announcements and send those to close friends and family. This way they won't feel like you are excluding them from anything and you get to show off your graphic design skills.
And no matter how you choose as a couple to celebrate it, getting married is a big deal so CONGRATS!!!!!!
Boots, SO said he wanted me to do something like that. I would like to get professional pictures taken since we've never done that and I'm obsessed with photography, so it seems silly for us to not have professional pictures. Maybe I can use one of those to create the announcement.

Professional photos are definitely worth it. I did something similar for my little brother and his now wife last year using a photo I took of them. There are a lot of examples out there on various wedding sites to give you a point to riff from. I think it gives the announcement a personal touch.
