Did anyone do a cubic/faux diamond?

So all this talk about non-diamond engagement rings got me curious...how many people decided on a faux diamond or cubic in place of a real diamond? How does it hold up in the short/long term? Are you planning on replacing it with a real rock when you can or does it not matter?

I know a few people who did marcasite instead of a diamond.  I can't tell the difference, personally, unless you look super closely.  They haven't had any problems with them thus far, and it's been a few years now.

I have thought about that as I lost my real diamond at work a few months back. :(
To tell you the truth, and I know this is going against girl code, I really don't love diamonds. I have even been thinking about having it replaced with my birthstone, aquamarine, but everyone tells me I am weird. LOL.

Do it! That would be awesome. I mean, you've already had a diamond and apparently weren't sold enough on it to want to replace it with another. So why not get something you do want?

ITA - I'm not a big fan of diamonds although I love my ring. I think you should have what YOU want and screw the girl code!

I think I am. There is nothing wrong with being different! :)  D posted some awesome ideas on one of the other posts that really look like what I had been thinking of.

I don't like diamonds either (see my other post in this section). I love aquamarines, too, and originally wanted one as an engagement ring. But I spoke with a reputable local jeweler who strongly advised against an aquamarine since they don't stand up nearly as well to every day wear as some other gems. But if you don't plan to wear yours every day, then you should be fine! Aquamarines are so pretty!

To answer the original question, no I haven't really thought of doing a CZ since I don't want a white diamond to begin with anyway. But we are looking at blue diamonds, which can be just as pricey, sometimes more so, than white diamonds.
