I've just been invited to go sailing on Saturday. I'm definitely not a "sailing, hanging out at the yacht club" type person, so can anybody help me figure out what to wear? The forecast is partly cloudy, high 77 degrees.
Can I wear shorts and flip flops? I have no idea what sailing folk wear. Please help if you can! thanks.
if it is just on somebody's boat, i would suggest a crisp t-shirt, capris, and light sneakers? (like keds or something) maybe bring a nice wrap, and bathing suit?
Shorts and flip flops should be fine unless you are actually hanging out at the club. Definitely layer...bring something for sunning like a tank or bathing suit and a sweater or hoodie for warmth...it can be up to 10 of 15 degrees cooler on the water depending on where you are. Don't forget lots of sunscreen...I have gotten my worst sunburns on boats. It's also usually really windy so I bring something to help control my hair...headband, ponytail holder, etc.
If it's possible, find out if the boat owner has any special shoe requirements. We go out on my boss' sail boat every summer, he's quite particular because non-rubber sole shoes can scratch the wood deck. I always wear flip flops, then kick them off and run around in my bare feet since I'm not a big fan of boat shoes!
And even if it's a million degrees, if the wind is strong enough to sail, it can get very chilly. A jacket or cardi is always a good idea. HTH!
Check out this cute link from she she me! I will be sailing next week and I got some of the BC footwear boatshoes at TJ Maxx, they serve their purpose and are now cuter! Then I will wear a pair of green cargo shorts, white polo and bring a yellow jacket!
Definitely take a jacket/sweater as it can cold on the water if the sun is not out. Rubber soled shoes are a must, because you need stability. I think Bermuda shorts and a cute polo/sweater combo would be nice.
