How much to spend on a wedding shower gift?
Permalink Closed

Hi All,
How much should I reasonably spend on a wedding shower gift for a friend from work? That is, we use to work together, but don't anymore. She's a good friend... I've already purchased a gift card to a spa near where she works in the amount of $25... is this enough? Should I add a picture frame, or something like that?

Thanks for your help!

I don't think there is any correct amount. I think the spa giftcard sounds great.

I think you should only spend what you can reasonably afford for showers. A rule I use for most gifts is to think of what I'd like to receive if it was me. You you'd like the certificate, then I'm sure she will too. I think $25 is fine for a work friend's shower.

If you do want to add on, honestly, when my SIL had her shower last summer I didn't wrap her gift. I put it in one of those giant tubs from Target. She thought that was just the best thing ever because not only could they use it to carry gifts home from the shower, but they could use it in their new place for storage. Since the tub cost about the same amount as a roll of wrapping paper and fancy ribbon, it pretty much evened out anyways.

I think it's fine too - and a clever way to package it is a great idea. You could wrap it in a vintage hankie and say it's her "something old."

Thanks for the advice everyone! I did end up getting her a wall-mount picture frame -- I figure they'll have a lot of photos soon (of their wedding and HM) and I know she (my friend) was complaining about having too much wall space and not enough art. I figure, if you can't be generous with your friends, whats the point?

Suasoria -- That vintage hankie idea is genius! I'm not sure where I"ll find one between now and the end of this week, but I'll take a look!

Thanks again
