My company is having a golf tournament on Saturday to raise money for an employee who was diagnosed with breast cancer recently. I volunteered to work on one of the prize holes so I need some advice on what to wear. I can't remember the last time I was on a course. I know the general idea of golf course attire is preppy but beyond that, I'm clueless. I do plan on wearing a company shirt - plain logo t-shirt I'm going to trim off with ribbon - but what about bottoms and shoes?

You may need to rethink your t-shirt idea...many golf courses require collared shirts...that's why you see so many polo shirts. If the course is less formal and everyone is wearing tourney tees then you should be all set. There is probably more flexiblity on your choice of bottoms...bermuda's if it's hot or capris or khaki style pants would be fine. I would stick with flats...heels could take chunks out of the greens. Even with these limitations I'm sure you can pull together something somewhat fashionable.
Like sweater girl said- some courses have dress codes. When I golf @ a the cheapy places that don't have a dress code I look like a bum. Usually just some kind of t shirt or tank and shorts. If I am @ the club or a place that requires a dress code I usually wear
I also have golf shoes, but I would recommend flats. I totally prep up for golfing- I am not sure why.
Really any kind of bottoms are okay

If I were you, I would probably wear plain white athletic shoes, not as cute as flats but more appropriate on the course. Since you're "SO NOT a golfer" I bet you don't have cleats
I totally agree with Ryan J... capris or shorts (but not too short are fine). I like to play in skirts... I have a few cute Lilly Pulitzer ones that aren't technically golf skirts but work perfectly. Basically any midlength a-line skirt in a light solid or appropriate print would work too.
