so i posted a while ago about my bf's birthday, and how he is a really practical guy, so don't think i'm impersonal and get bad gifts, these are things that he will really like (i'm so embarassed, i feel like i have to defend my gifts...)
should i get him this coffee table, he's been talking about it, but he just hasn't gotten around to it (plus i really want to have a coffee table downstairs).
or should i get him this TUMI backpack. he likes it, just not the price tag....
also, would it be bad to look for a brand new TUMI bag on ebay? i don't think he would mind, and i feel like he would be impressed that i got it there (since he is quite the bargain shopper, in a non-cheap way). i know he wouldn't want to return it either, so that's not an issue.
IMPORTANT: i'm not supposed to get him anything, just take him to dinner, so that might be important in the ebay issue, like, "oh, don't get mad, i know i wasn't supposed to get you anything, but i saw it on ebay, and say it was only like $100"
thanks for the advice girls!! don't think i'm the worst gf and that i have a cheap bf!!!! it's just the way i feel like i might have to finagle things in this particular situation.

i'm a traveler and i love tumi! so get the tumi backpack- just a word of caution about buying tumi on ebay- they have a lifetime guarantee with authentic purchase (as in a store) but it is voided if you purchase on ebay. so you may want to think about that.
I do love that table, but if you aren't really supposed to get anything, a table seems like a big gift - literally physically big!!! I don't think the backpack is impersonal - I got my DH a booq bag (computer bag) for traveling for valentines day & he loved it. I don't think it's bad to look on ebay, but take bex's warranty comment to heart.

oh! i just thought of something- if you have a nordstrom's check out the tumi merchandise there. i was there yesterday and noticed a woman with a tumi roll bag and i was close enough to see that she got it on clearance (they are having their 1/2 yearly sale)... maybe go check out nordie's to see if they have your backpack on clearance- then you get the tumi on sale but still have the lifetime warranty!
while i would rather get the coffee table (cuz i want it)...i think the backpack would be more unexpected and i guess if you think about it, it's the woman's equivalent of a handbag, and you know how we all get excited to get a handbag.
thanks for the replies, and bex i DEFINITELY didn't think about the warranty. i'm going today to look, thanks for the heads up. i just thought he wouldn't be as mad (not that he's really gonna be mad) that i cheated with the gifts if i got it at a discount.
plus, i always get him gifts for the condo, i should branch out.
thanks, i don't know what i would do with all your wonderful insights...

so funny! yes backpack is awesome and tumi bags are the best! i would die for tumi luggage.
I would get him the coffee table. He will get more use out of it than the backpack whether you notice it or not. JMO.
hahaha. you would think, but since he has been travelling for work lately (basically this whole summer he will only be home on the weekends) I will get more use out of the coffee table!! that's why i WANT to get him that.
