Any suggestions for the ceremony? I still like some classical stuff, but I am not inspired by the usuals. TIA!

Yeah, if I have to hear Pachelbel's Canon (bleh) or Bach's Air (barf) at a wedding one more time, I am going to get up and leave.

I love opera myself, and think that certain pieces could work in a wedding. I am sure you recognize this (and I suspect it's going to become popular wedding music if it's not already) - the Flower duet from "Lakme" (composer is Delibes). It's in some airline commercial, unfortunately, but it would be really lovely processional music, and it's appropriate because the person singing is a bride singing with her handmaiden. There's a snippet you can listen to on the page for this opera CD - disc 1, song 4:

I also really love the male duet from Bizet's The Pearl Fishers ("Au fond du temple saint"), but you might not be into male voices at your wedding. It's one of the prettiest things I've ever heard, men or not. Snippet here, disc 1, song #6 (except it stops before the song really gets going, which I hate about these samples, so it's hard to tell):

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. :)

I don't know exactly what type of music youre thinking of, but I remember from an episode of Sex and the City and how Carrie was reading about Big's wedding in the newspaper and how he walked down the aisle to When a Man Loves a Woman, played on the sax.  Even though Charlotte thought it was 'tacky' I kind of thought it was a cute idea.  Maybe you could do an instrumental version of your 'song' or something along those lines? Goodluck!

we're having a solo classical guitarist play at our ceremony. the bridesmaids/groomsmen will walk down to "with a little help from my friends" by the beatles (sounds amazing on solo guitar!) and i'll be walking down to bach's "sleepers awake" - it's a classical piece, but it's much less commonly used at weddings and when i first heard it i couldn't imagine walking to anything else.

Can anyone find that first song on itunes? I hate to buy a whole cd. I can't seem to find it. I am not sure if opera will go with a beach wedding though? Thoughts? I think I may go with the new age genre, any suggestions there? Or I do love Smash's idea any other suggestions for that?
