I know that it's the same concept as a skirt & tights, but the look just seems "off" to me. For me shorts = summer. Maybe it's a regional thing? I suppose I could see people in warmer climates doing it for winter.
I'm not. I've seen some people pulling it off cute but I don't think I could!
Plus, in the 7th grade my teacher used to always do that (but with flats instead of boots) and I remember hating it on her. That's really all I remember about that woman. Granted, that was in the 90s and a long time ago, but I can't shake that vision/feeling

Yes, when it gets cold enough, I wore this look last year too. However, I usually don't wear boots because in my opinion it's almost impossible to get the right length shorts AND the right height boots. I prefer peep toe wedges in a bold color with black tights. It looks really cute if it's done right.
Flashbacks to the early 90s - big time. If I were going to wear tights with shorts, the shorts would be a heck-of-a-lot longer than those. The look does seem more appropriate for New England or the Pacific Northwest.
Let me just say this about that...I have black velvet bermudas and there have been a few times I've planned to wear this look with black tights/boots, but haven't yet pulled the trigger. It needs something on top that's a bit more conservative, for balance, and I haven't come up with the right thing.
i love it in these pics ^^^ but I too have bad '90s flashbacks of wearing my blackwatch plaid shorts, navy tights, penny loafers and turtleneck to high school.

I barely wear shorts in the summer but did add 2 pairs to my wardrobe this year. I would be interested in trying this look since one is a tweed material, but have to see how it looks before I walk out the house in it.
I recently tried this look & loved it, got a ton of compliments. I wore a drapey foley & corinna top with bluish-grey shorts. For tights I wore a black pair with black fishnets over them. Wore cute heels with them that made my legs look ultra long. I love the look of layered tights like this! Looks way cuter than those opaque faux-fishnets.
