I need a bag for my sisters wedding. My dress is long and in lilac but instead of getting a matchy matchy purse like she suggested, I want to invest in a cute evening bag I can use for years to come with other formal occaisions and dresses (most of the time they will prob be back given that I am pale and look good in it). Ideally I would love a Judith Leiber but I do not want to break the bank.
Here are the choices
1. Prada gold sequined evening bag
2. Moo Roo bag
3. Inge Christopher
4. Inge Christopher
5. Moo Roo with Ostrich feathers
6. Inge Christopher same as 3 but in gold
Any other suggestions? Max I want to spend is about $350 no more considering I never buy purses I figure this is a splurge.
another option: i know you said no matchy matchy but bcbg carries clutches in various colors w/ feathers of that color. i dunno, i think a lilac feather clutch would be kinda cute, and it certainly wouldn't break the bank. wish i had a pic for you...
I really love Lauren Merkin's satin bean bags ($165). They're available at Luna Boston (I know they have some discount code floating around) and on her site: www.laurenmerkin.com. They're really simple and come in lots of colors. Here's the gold one:
I also really like the the evening bags from Myna Bags (www.mynabags.com). They're all around the $100 mark and there are a ton of really cute options. Here's a couple:
This is by Moyna and is also available at Luna Boston ($190- although you can use a code on this too!)- it might be a little matchy, but I think the dark purple here would look beautiful with the lilac dress.
This is Violette Nozieres and is $325.95 on Zappos (sorry pic so big!):
I like #4. I'm not really sure if any of those would be that versatile though or really look like something that you couldn't find cheaper IMHO. Have you tried looking up vintage clutches on eBay? You could probably find a cute one for under $20, maybe even under $10. If you want to invest in a nice bag, I would get something with really nice beading or embellishments. I like #4- it reminds me of Britney Spears in the she's so lucky she's a star blah blah music video. I thought she was really pretty in that video.
if you're going for an investment piece, i love the lauren merkin satin clutch that rosey posted! i have a clutch that color and i've used it so many times, and passed it along to my sister so many times. i think that would look pretty with the dress and some champagne colored shoes.
i have the feather bcbg one and it's just not practical. it's fun, but not worth the price. like lynnie said, check ebay for some beautiful handbags, there are a ton out there.
one more thing to consider, my evening bags all have stains or have been cleaned, etc... if you think about it, you leave them on the table, people spill things (especially with open bar events at the end of the evening). or you set them in a puddle. in my opinion, i wouldn't spend more than $100 on a bag, but maybe i just hang out with sloppy drunks .

To totally confuse you.... how about a fun Mary Frances bag. They will run you about $150-$175 but they are one of a kind and definitely keepers. I have one and can totally dress it up, or pair it with jeans. Good luck!
Oh, lovestoshop, those Mary Frances bags are lovely! I really like the first one. Darn, this whole thread is making me want to invest in a bunch of evening bags for which I have no use!

Rosey, I have this one and you could totally justify a similar one (dress it up or down). And since many bags had two different sides it's like 2 for 1. Remember 'need' and 'want' can be used interchangeably!!!!
Thanks everyone for your help. I mainly plan to use this bag for formal bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings and other formal parties where chances are the bag will be on my chair while I am on the dance floor! I will have to check out Laura Merkin I liked those I am a very clean lines, simple is better not too much on it but make it pretty kind of gal so the Mary Frances ones are just not me. Like I said I do not want something too young since I want something I can use for awhile. I wish I could just wait for Judith leibers annual sale at Woodbury

I hadn't thought about the "two bags for the price of one" thing. Yes, once I've decided I "want" something bad enough, it becomes a "need" and, now, I'm already picturing a couple of her bags with jeans. I may have to think about one for a future purchase. Wonderfully skilled enabling, lovestoshop!
