We had a business meeting with a financial person today. She was wearing a black jacket, gray striped pants (loved them--they had a bias strip of the same fabric stitched down the side seam) black stilleto pumps and black fishnets. Now, I was probably the only person there who notice her legwear, but maybe not.
I'm just curious--keeping in mind that this is California--have fishnets become acceptable as office wear in a normally conservative business/professional environment?
I think they're hard to pull off but look great when done properly. I've seen them in the office in the winter, with knee length skirts and Mary Janes and I thought it was cute. All in all, as long as it's done tastefully it should be fine.

I used to be a banker, and I have to say although I wouldn't blink an eye at this, I wouldn't have done it in a business situation. I think in a "financial" situation - banker, investor, etc a lot of people would consider it inappropriate. Since they were with pants I am torn because I know not much of the stockings were showing. I think the people on this board are fashion forward enough for it to be ok, but if I was trying to loan $5 million to 50 - 60 year old men, i would assume they would look at me as a cabaret act & not a professional business woman. Just my 2 cents.

I would not wear them if I was in the financial sector with a skirt, although I am thinking it would be okay to wear them with pants because you don't really see the fishnet.
I always thought fishnets were horribly tacky until recently. I think some stylish girls helped me change my mind, because I never thought it was possible to wear them and be tasteful. Now I am all for them. I would totally wear them with pants or a skirt to work (I work with computer software industry)
i think it's fine, and i do it. although i usually wear faux fishnets, but i do wear them with skirts and pants. i especially like to wear them with an otherwise boring black suit.
i don't work in the financial sector, but i work in government/politics.
