it doesn't look so bad... boston is usually about 10 degrees colder (well that's not exact) but it's a noticeable difference.

i would bring 1 or 2 lightweight sweaters that you can layer over other pieces, and a light jacket (like a track jacket) or hoodie. i think casual boots would be fine and not look out of season.

i was actually thinking about what shoes to wear to go out at night. would dressy boots look weird? i am thinking of like my high heeled pointy black boots to wear under my jeans. i don't want to ruin my little peep-toe pumps if it's going to be wet, but will my dressier boots look unseasonable?

i guess i could bring more casual boots, like my riding boots, and wear a skirt and tights to go out.

i actually do think dressier boots look kind of funny right now, but that's totally my personal thing. do you just have a pair of basic pumps? also the last couple of weekends it's kind of been on and off raining, so there's a good chance that by the time you get ready to go out it'll be dry.

It's true... it's been miserable here in Boston all month. Let's see this week...we have had temps in the 40's and wind driven rain. I have more or less reverted back to my winter clothes. They say it's going to be better over the weekend...about 60 mix of clouds and sun and only a possiblity of showers...ugh! We Bostonians are really starting to get cranky with this weather.

As someone else suggested bring lots of layers...tanks, tees, sweaters, a spring jacket so that you can add or subtract as needed. Given the weather of the last week I don't think boots would look out of place...a pump would probably be best. I have been mostly wearing mules, only because I have been wearing my boots since Oct and I am so sick of them. I have yet to break out any open toed shoes.

i appreciate your honesty--i have a personal thing about being unseasonable with dressy boots, too--that's why i was asking. i think i'll bring my casual boots for daytime or a dive-ier night out and bring my peep-toe pumps for going out at night and just hope for the best.

i don't really have any plain closed-toe pumps (except some suede ones, which is the same problem with wet weather). i never really would wear them in LA, i don't think--because i can mostly get away with open toed shoes most of the year (and wear dressy boots the two months out of the winter that i can't).

ok, one more fashion faux-pas question--is anyone wearing white jeans there yet? i know monday is the start of the season where it's ok to wear them--the rules seem to be a little stricter on the east coast than they are out here in la-la land!

I'd say bring them...I have not seen any white jeans/pants yet but as I said the weather hasn't exactly been cooperative. The minute it does warm up though everyone will have their summery outfits on.

i usually say that weather.com is always wrong, but lately, it's just been wet wet wet... but that annoying kinda wet where you don't really need an umbrella.. it just feels like supermarket produce mist all the time.

i feel weird about boots (i still see people in flops despite the weather).. so i would say go more summery than wintery. riding boots sound good.. what's a more equestrian time than the summer? also, what about flats or ballet slippers? sorry but i just feel that high heel pointy boots for walking around isn't that practical (sorry). i think it's llike the average nyer walks 3-4 miles a day? plus if you're sightseeing or sight-shopping you may be doing more than that. and even if it's just for going out... nyc pavement is not kind on shoes!

EDIT! most importantly have an awesome time on your trip! post pics or give us a report when you get back!

thank you, dot. i wasn't planning on wearing high-heels for walking around during the day--i was just asking for what to wear when going out at night when we are cabbing or walking a few blocks at most. i don't like wearing flats out at night no matter where i am, because i am too short!

i've been to NY many many times before and i love to walk--i had already planned on sneakers and flats for that, so i was just trying to figure out what to wear at night.

bring open toe strappy sandals then! it's 50 but i still see girls in camis and jeans on friday and saturday nights WITH NO JACKETS! anyway, what i wanted to say before is spring-it-up girl! leave those boots at home! everyone here is freezing their butts off with them mind set "if i dress like it's spring.. it must be spring"

i haven't really noticed anyone in white jeans, but i think that's not b/c of the whole memorial day thing, but b/c the weather hasn't really been nice enough to warrant white pants.

It's very rainy and chilly and just plain damp here in Boston. I think it may get to around 70 degrees on Monday, but the rest of the days are supposed to be in the 60s with some rain here and there. Trust me, it's dreary and miserable for memorial Day weekend!!!!!! Don't wear anything you wouldn't want to get ruined by the icky water!

ok, so i think i have made a decision: yes on open-toed pumps, no on white jeans, no on pointy boots. i've got plenty of other jeans to bring that are not white (and one pair of khakis and my black knit jessica simpson pants), so i think i'll be fine. thanks again, my stylish ladies.
