I've never been to one, but tomorrow BF and I are going to a wine tasting fundraiser at a zoo. I am pretty sure that this is going to be outside near some animal exhibits. They are calling this the "grown up night out at the zoo" but there are some casual, bar-type bands playing (from what I can tell listening to them on myspace). So I'm confused.
Any suggestions? I know this is so vague - but that's exactly why I need help!

You can't go wrong with a LBD, in a more casual material, perhaps jersey. I'm thinking a wrap dress, you could even do a fun print and simple accessories like 1 or 2 bangles. I'd probably wear flat sandals or a low heel just in case you are outside.

If it's a fundraiser, but it's a Thursday evening, that makes it kind of tough. I picture a short-sleeved, jewel-toned, jersey dress, knee length with a lightweight cardigan. A pair of nighttime-appropriate sandals or balet flats would be comfortable yet nice looking. Add a cuff bracelet for some sparkle and structure.

I think a weekday evening event usually calls for business attire. Most people will come from work anyway.
I'd probably wear lightweight (linen?) slacks, heeled sandals, a sleeveless top, shawl of some kind, and interesting jewelry...but that's not your style. For you I'm thinking pointy flats or wedges, pencil skirt, short-sleeved blouse or knit top of some sort. I'd go along with a dress if it isn't too cocktail-y. It would be easy to feel overdressed at the zoo! If you have a little denim jacket/blazer, throw it in the car. It will immediately dress you down.

Oh I am too predictable, this is actually what I'm wearing right now! Thanks for the suggestions everyone...I did put together another outfit with your help (dress, flats, funky jewelry) hanging up in my closet in case I somehow wrinkle my clothes or spill something while I'm at work and need to change before I go!

I've seen people wear anything from jeans to cocktail dresses at these things. I think you can't go wrong with a LBD made interesting with some accessories (maybe a cuff or a long necklace) and a colorful clutch. I'd wear wedges or flats since it's going to be outside (maybe something metallic if you have it?)
It sounds like a lot of fun! I love wine tastings.
