I need a good recommendation on which site to book through for a hotel room in PA this weekend.  Anyone?

Are you picky about a hotel brand? If not I usually do well with the Priceline.com name your own price service. I just try to research where I want to stay and the type of hotels in the area and then fix my star rating and location to match up what I will be ok with.

You could also try calling specific hotels in the area you are interested in and see if they have any deals going on at the moment. Not sure if this is for the funeral you mentioned in another thread, but they might have a bereavement deal for those who ask.

Well, both Orbitz and Travelocity failed to fax my reservation confirmations to the hotels I stayed in last weekend and the weekend before, respectively. (What are the chances of this happening to me two weekends in a row?) Both times, I had to call the sites I booked through and have them re-fax the confirmation (even though I had a copy of it myself). Not a huge deal other than being stuck on hold for about 20 minutes both times. The first hotel resolved it and upgraded us free of charge within a few minutes of receiving the fax. The second hotel argued with us for an additional 2 hours (after we had already been dealing with the issue for an hour) and tried to take our money and not give us a room.

So really, it's a crapshoot. It's not an issue to get the confirmation re-faxed if it's lost, but if you are dealing with a bitter woman who just wants to be mean and spiteful just because she currently wields the power of reservations and is holding onto that small amount of power with all her might, then well, you're screwed.

That said, I've booked from Travelocity, Orbitz, Hotels and Priceline for major vacations and never had issues up until now. None are consistent in having the best price, so I just comparison shop right before I buy.

Travelgirl posted this blog awhile back about using priceline. I have used her advice multiple times and always had great luck.

Here are a few of my better deals:
Hyatt Regency in downtown Lexington for $33/night for 3 nights.
The Plaza in Kansas City at a Sheridan (I think, it was really nice regardless of the hotel) for $39/night for several nights.

I always pick the top star and then decide on a price using her tips.

If you are not stuck on a particular hotel then I suggest hotwire. I have used them 3 times in the last 6 months and it is awesome. Each time I saved over 50%. I love it!
