So I was at Gap 2 weekends ago and bought a really pretty lavender silk-blend cowl neck sweater on clearance for $9.99 + tax. I was very careful to follow the directions exactly so as not to ruin it (as I have been known to do with fine-knit things) and washed in on the gentle cycle with cold water and laid it flat to dry. Do you see where I'm going with this . . . ?
Anyway, the sweater is now completely ruined. The lovely 'sheen' it had has turned dull and it has begun to pill (!), as well as shrinking in length a good 2 or 3 inches. I want to take it back and get a refund! Not because I am the cheapest person ever and want my $10, but for the principle - this was a $50 sweater! That is ruined after one (very careful) washing!
My point is, do you think it would be stupid and petty of me to take it back? Should I just let it go and chaulk it up under the "Things not to buy from Gap" list?

I would return it if its not a hassle. If its more trouble than its worth throw it away but if you have the time return it because $10 isn't like $1. Its a lot to me right now with gas being so high.
You can bring it back. That happened to me with a pair of pants a month or so ago and I was able to exchange them. They shrunk to much in the length. I did not ask for my money back so I'm not sure if they will offer that.
Take it back! Money is money no matter how small an amount. You can't wear it again, so you might as well try to return it. Even if they only offer you store credit, at least you can exchange it for something you'll actually wear.
I would take it back for sure. My boyfriend had two pairs of pants from there that both ripped in the same spot (not on the seam, in the middle of the pants) and they took them back no problem.

yeah I would return it. It's so funny that you mentioned the gas prices. One year ago, no one could imagine that such a small thing like gas would be constantly on our mind when it comes to expenses.
i would totally take it back. gap is a big corporation that would probably be grateful to have feedback on how their products hold up and how the fabrics they buy are working or not working.
Return it. As consumers, we should only pay for things that are worth it, and a sweater that falls apart is not worth it, even if you got it on sale. Besides, they are pretty easy with returns.
i used to work at the gap and they have a 14 day wash and wear policy-if something doesn't work w/in 14 days (even if you have washed it) they will take it back. it's a lot easier if you have your receipt. hope this helps...and i know which sweater your talking about--that sucks that it's ruined. it was a very nice sweater...but you shouldn't have a problem taking it back-just explained what happened:)
