Need comfy shoe for walking to work
Permalink Closed

Okay I am cutting out my Metrocard to save $$ and get exercise. Back and forth it's over a 3 mile walk, so I need something that looks cute with my work clothes.. and doesn't look too much like the commuting business woman look (suit, hose, white socks, sneakers! YUCK!)

*Also keep in mind that 3 miles would be the min. I would walk everyday. If I go out it would be more than that.

I usually wear pants and a sweater/or blazer or skirt sweater/or blazer. Please help me pick.

I thought Cons would be cool. I like how these are slip on

These are Cons too but they are more ballet style

Or these Pumas?

I am also open to any suggestions.

I am not a converse person( I can't pull them off), but I do think that they are little more acceptable with pants and blazers, ex. people wearing them on the red carpet...Christina Applegate. So I think those would look the least like you were a "working girl" ex. Melanie Griffith...

I like these by Ecco but shade-wise, they might be a little too Ellen Degeneres.

I also think these Eccos are cute if you like red.

I also know people who swear by Dansko clogs for walking & know they choose any of the following.

I vote heavily for these:

So comfy, they totally form to your feet, and they come in lots of colors if you don't want black.  I've had mine for almost 4 years and they look like new even though I wear them All.  The.  Time.  Also very inconspicuous with work attire.

Oooh!  I sooooo wanted those slip on Converse and I am not a sneaker girl at all!  I wanted Brown in Sz 8 but they were sold out everywhere (even online)

I also like the ballet style on and considered those too.

Ritz- I really like those!  How do they run?  Are they european sizes or american sizes and do you think they are true to size?

i like the ones ritz posted the best (well i like them all but i think those would be the most practical and durable). also one thing to consider is if you go out a lot after work the dansko clogs look kind of heavy which makes me think they'd be a pain to lug around for awhile.

lynnie- i think they run a tiny bit big. I have an 8 (US sizes) and i typically wear an 8.5. however i don't wear them with socks so that could be why i can wear a size smaller? i just looked at mine and they have all of the sizes on the label, a US 8 is a UK 6 or a European 39.5...

i love them and get tons of compliments on them- my only problem is that i've noticed they smell a few times- but again, my fault for not wearing them with socks. AND, kinda gross, but i got the Dr. Scholls Shoe Shot Odor Destroyer powder and use it maybe once a week/week and a half ( i wear these shoes regularly) as a preventative and i havent noticed it since.

also, as honey said, they are really lightweight but still sturdy- so they will be easy to carry around. i would worry about you walking a lot in those converse they don't seem to have any support. I also have these which may work for you dot:

super cute but i don't think they are quite as comfortable as the lacoste... but still very comfortable.

Hmm, interesting that they think an 8 is a European 39.5.  Usually, a 39.5 is called a 9.5 here, even though I know that is wrong.  I almost always wear a 40, which I would consider a 9 or a 9.5.  So I wonder if I should get the 8.5 or the 9?  If a 9 is a 40.5, then that might be too big, though i've never worn an 8.5!!  haha, confusing.

I bought these Puma shoes a couple weeks ago (in pink with a purple-pink stripe) at Nordtrom and LOVE them. They have at least eight different colors to choose from. They are so comfortable and look really cute with jeans or capri pants. I like that they are more comfortable than sandals for long walks and that they don't look as "clunky" as regular tennis shoes.  Also, the mesh makes them breathable.

I like the Pumas you originally posted (so cool!), but personally, I would choose a shoe that will be good for walking AND coordinate with your work clothes, something like the Fast History from Aerosoles on top or the Neptune from Nauturalizer on the bottom (Naturalizer has a lot of other similar shoes as well).  Just a thought.
