Some people just don't get it...

Today I was wearing:

black pin-striped trousers (very thin stripe)

black petit bateau tee

grey plaid suit jacket from BR - if anyone remembers this one from the winter, it has a little puff on the shoulders, a small blue stripe in the plaid, is single breasted, and is a round cut in the back in stead of square (very, very pretty)

baby blue patent leather pointy-toed flats

teal blue purse

silver jewelry

I thought it was a super-cute outfit and I'd totally post a pic of the outfit except it's too much trouble to upload pics everyday for me.

I had lunch with a guy friend (who was wearing clothes I took him shopping for and picked out for him) and he made fun of my shoes! And he said it didn't go with the rest of my outfit! I tried to explain to him about being too matchy-matchy, but he just didn't get it.

I just had to rant a bit because I know you women will feel my pain.

yes, straight men just don't get it.

My bf makes fun of my stuff all the time. He thinks bermudas were made for little boys and that my big belt looks like a wrestle mania belt.

You're really barking up the wrong tree looking for straight guys to appreciate the subtleties of dressing!

Rocky, your bf's "wrestlemania" comment was very funny. Ha ha.

I know, just a few days ago, I was wearing navy trousers with red wedges and my friend was laughing saying, "OMG, you're like totally not matching today!"  I didn't bother going into details but I just said, "I never match, well only on accident."

I hate it when that happens! When those cami's came in style a while ago, you know, the ones that look like lingerie? well I wore one out to dinner w/my husband and his family and when I walked downstairs my husbands eyes popped out! He couldn't believe I was going to wear that out! I did have a cute tied shrug over it too!

Remember a couple summers ago when it was the thing to wear a black bra under a white boybeater? I started to wear that to a friend's pool party and she almost came unglued! If it hadn't mean that I had to change my clothes, it would have been really funny.

I know exactly how you feel. My sister bought the cutest dress to wear to a wedding a few weeks ago that had an aqua & royal blue print on it - i really liked it, was out of line with her normal wardrobe. She ended up taking it back because she couldn't find the EXACT shade of aqua or blue shoes to wear with it!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH - hello, I gave her 4 or 5 color options, but she wouldn't hear of it because it didn't "match" - you can't help some people.

She also called my gold melie looking bag my "gold lame hooker purse".

Rocky, wrestle mania belt comment is hysterical. I'm so glad to hear that other men also make these comments that fashionable chicks like us promptly ignore!

And your outfit sounds adorable, BTW, I wish you would post in thread style.

bluebirde you outfit sounds so cute....straight men have no idea what matches...my fiancee make fun of these green loafers that I have...he thinks I can only wear them with a green shirt....and once he did say that the big belt I had on looked like a wrestling belt...ha

blubirde, your outfit sounds cute! I hate it when people are too matchy matchy- it looks like they're trying too hard. If it makes you feel any better, my bf makes fun of these shoes that I have (and quite a few STers have them too):
He calls them "nurse shoes."

bluebird it just sounds like that guy wanted you to know that he was taking an interest in fashion now. consider it a compliment on all your good efforts (like taking him shopping, etc). he's getting into fashion!

he just hasn't learned the rules yet.. like the rule that you are unable to make a fashion faux pas!

I like that!!! Nice. Next time someone makes a comment about fashion, I'll stand up straight, shake my hair back, and say very haughtily, "if one knows fashion, one knows one is unable to make a fashion faux pas." I can't wait!!!

Ah, LoMish my Iowa sister, we should totally meet up!   Up here in Ames, I don't think anyone gets it either!

Ah!  I feel your pain, though my BF has learned now not to comment anything unless it is positive, but I have to admit he is pretty knowledgeable on style and fashion after 5.5 yrs together, suffering through endless hours of Style network and hundreds of pounds of fashion magazines and shopping bags lol!

but I do feel you - I used to work at South Coast Plaza Nordstrom, where many women WILL NOT buy pieces they cannot match to or cannot buy an "outfit".

I had someone ask me why I was wearing my slippers out. They were my silver ballet flats.

Oh my gosh - I laughed OUT LOUD when I read this!! Too funny!

I got elf shoes once when I wore out some pink pointy-toed flats with a little bow on the end. The guy who told me that couldn't even see his shoes.

Oy vey.  I work in a construction office, so though I almost always wear jeans I also like to wear heels with them.  If they are even slightly pointy or have anything higher than a 1 inch heel, I get comments - "Watch out for those!"  "Do those have steel toes?"  "Elf shoes!" etc.

THIS COMING FROM MEN THAT SPEND $750 ON OSTRICH WORK BOOTS!!!!

Um, thanks for your opinion?

OMG, talk about matching--I work in the handbags and accessories department in a department store and last weekend this woman came in looking for something to go with a black dress with red and pink flowers (she didn't have the dress with her)...I could just tell she had absolutely no sense of style at all!  Well, she wanted to buy this huge all red hat (one of those hats that are supposed to be for the Red Hat Society) and a pale pink chiffon and silk shawl.  I tried to explain to her that it would be best not to match the colors to the dress, or at least only ONE of the colors (red OR pink), but I don't think she liked what I had to say and went to buy her items at a different register.

Oh, and my bf thinks i wear weird clothes when I dress stylishly (usually it is just jeans and a fitted tee or something simple)...and this is coming from a guy who lives in jeans and hooded sweatshirts?!?  WTF.
