Bored with "going out" tops
Permalink Closed

Hello all,

I'm hoping you can help with a dilemma I'm having: I'm sick of my "going out" uniform of jeans and a typical "going out" top/cami. Any suggestions of tops I can wear with jeans that will be more unique, interesting, etc.?

I'm not sure what you are looking for - what type of top do you normally wear?

You could get one of the sequin shrugs that are popular this season?  Maybe mixing up jeans with trousers and skirts might help too!

I agree- maybe you just need to mix up your bottom half.  Also, I don't like to think in terms of day clothes and night clothes- maybe wear some of your day clothes with nighttime accessories- maybe white trousers, a white tank, and big jewelry.  Or a little black dress.  Unless you are going to a nightclub- then wear your worst clothes, hehe.  I have a huge girl crush on Kirsten Dunst and would wear these things at night (sorry so big):

I'm not exactly sure what this is, but I like the stripes with the polka dots:

maybe you need a new store/brand to fall in love w/?  are your clothes mostly from one place?  that sometimes happens w/ me because i'll get really brand loyal and then just kind of wear it out (kinda like playing a favorite cd over and over).

here are my new favorite stores in LA:

madison (on robertson between third and alden)

kitson (same as above)

nanette lepore (same as above)

sophea parros (off colorado in old town pasadena)

great labels (on wilshire between 11th and 12th in santa monica)

anyway, hth!

p.s.  hmm...i have a feeling i'm probably playing out the north robertson block, but oh well, it's new for now!

wow she has incredible legs. Not freaky-skinny, just toned and amazing. V. jealous. But I like all the outfits a lot too, esp 1 & 3. Have been having the same feeling about the going-out clothes, too, and decided I definitely have to give the jeans a little rest. I like the idea of wearing more work-y pants with a sexy or fancy top.

OMG I must be detained from that northern half of Robertson at all costs...I can just see my money flying away. I had no idea Nanette Lepore even had a store!

When I go out (which is approximately twice a year but whatever), I usually wear work-y pinstripe pants with going out tops. Or I wear a simple dress and jazz it up with accessories. I actually really like Velvet t-shirt dresses for this purpose, since they translate really well from day to night in the darker colors and they're super-comfy and unrestrictive.

Thanks for the suggestions, girls. Kirsten Dunst does have great style, ya gotta give her that! And I'm gonna check out the Kitson website and print this post for when I go to LA in May.

So here's more details, cause I'd love even more suggestions: I'm totally not a trousers person. I either wear jeans or skirts or dresses (even to work: I work in a place where I can wear jeans). So I typically wear camisoles with cardigans or shrugs and jeans, tee shirts and skirts with a cardigan or cropped blazer, dresses with cardigan or blazer, etc. And it's getting old. I think I want tops that stand on their own, without a cardigan, b/c I feel like I'm the "cardigan girl" but I also need stuff for the transitional weather, b/c I live in Colorado and today, for example, it is snowing here.

I really like the third turquoise top KD is wearing - stuff like that would be "new" to me. But I don't want to spend a fortune, either.

Gosh, this is long. Thanks in advance for all your help!
