I'm attending a black tie wedding at the end of May. I've been having a hard time finding a dress that looks good on me.
I'm finding that dresses just aren't working at my current size (I'm trying to lose weight, but I'm not fat). I'm 5'4, have a large chest and a short torso, so I'm having a hard time defining a waist.
Would a two piece outfit be appropriate? Or does anyone have any dress suggestions? TIA!
I would stay away from full length dresses since you're petite (even though it's black tie) and pair your dress with very fancy accessories and jewelry to elevate the look a bit. And maybe a nice wrap?

I went to a black tie wedding in Oct. and I wore a black cable knit cashmere short sleeve sweater with a pink silk taffeta skirt from DKNY and some black satin strappy heels, a huge pearl necklace and then did my hair and make up more formal. I was the most comfortable than I have ever been and felt that my attire was very approriate. My friends said that I looked like the blonde Charlotte from SATC...
Since the wedding is in May you may want to go lighter than black:
