As many of you know I work at a HS giftshop/bookstore. We are unlike any other school bookstore, in the regards that we sell everything...Weber grills, Eliza B. Flip Flops, Nambe Home items, to baby gifts galore...well we are trying to come up with something to for graduation gifts. We get so many parents coming in asking to buy stuff, but I have been trying to help these older ladies with what is cool and what isn't anymore...We know that kids won't take anything to college with the school's name on it, especially our school's name....any ideas of what would be something that you wouldn't think is dorky and would actually like to take to college. Past examples have been laundry bags, fleece throws, cups, all that logo school stuff....but we need something new and fresh and I am stumped! TIA~
I'm just finishing up my first year at school and I think what I like the most is my luggage. I would LOVE to have a nice, medium sized sturdy tote to throw stuff in to take home on the weekends.
When we graduated from highschool, the school gave us (in addition to diplomas ) really nice huge bath towels and mugs with the school's emblem on it. I know you said kids might not like that kind of stuff, but I liked both.
Other ideas... nice portfolios... I think that's what they're called. My aunt gave me one from Coach and I use it all time on interviews. Here's the one I got... You could maybe personalize them by monogramming initials.
My other favorite gift was a huge memo pad that came in a plastic container. On the top was my name and the bottom was the name of my college. It wasn't fine stationary but perfect for writing notes, lists, etc. I still have a lot left over. This isn't the exact kind I had, but similar.
Other ideas...
-nice fountain pens (my dad's a huge collector, so he thinks this a great gift for everyone)
-nice luggage tags
-photo albums
What not to get... engraved silver crap. I seriously got so much tacky silver jewelry (omega pendants, earrings, cuff bracelets) I will never wear and not many people have the initials "SFC" so I can't really regift it. I also got 6 (!!!) engraved silver compacts. 2 were really nice (one was from Tiffany's and the other was antique from Beverly Bremer (an Atl antique silver shop I'm sure Chic knows) but the others were crap. The idea was nice, but I would ruin a nice silver compact if I carried it everyday with my other purse junk.

We carry all those things and they are not moving....we have the Vera Bradley Handbag and Luggage collection, Mugs, Portfolios and personalized stationary for formal letters and casual notes. The boys are what is really hard to firgure out what they would like.. We also have all that stupid silver stuff....that is what I am trying to get them away from. Any more ideas for guys? I wish we had some solid luggage and handbags for the non-Vera Bradley customers...

We ordered some sweatshirt blankets and we can get them monogrammed with either their intitals for the preppy boys or their college, like most of them are going to UGA so we will have our example be GO DAWGS. We got fleece blankets for the girls in fun colors! We are still looking into more things for guys so if anything strikes you please contact me! Thank you to everyone!
