I'm sure you're all sick of seeing graduation outfits by now, but I'm so excited about this look that I just had to post. I got my ABS skirt from Bluefly today and I LOVE it! I did a little dance when I opened the package because I rarely love things I buy online. I'm going to wear it for my graduation (late May, day ceremony) along with a cami and a shrug on top (bought today with the help of my ever fashionable roomate). It's hard to tell in the pics, but the cami is a pale yellow (matches the bottom of the skirt) and the shrug is cream. In real life, the difference between the colors is much more obvious. I'm planning on replacing the button on the shrug. Also, I'm not going to wear these shoes with the outfit (just wanted to try them on for color), but I am thinking of a strappy, cream number. Here's a couple pics:
I'm experimenting with tucking the cami into the skirt which gives the outfit a '50s look and shows off the waist of the skirt. Anyway, what do you girls think? Any jewelery suggestions?
I dont really like it tucked in either, but I think you have to tuck or wear something shorter in length to show of the waist of that pretty skirt and so it wont look so bulky if you have something over it.
or you know what, looking at your pictures more, i think your shrug is throwing it off. If you wear a top (the one you have on) tucked in without the shrug it might look cutier! Try that and see how you like it and show up pictures. I think too much is going on on top w/clothes when you have that skirt with that style of waist. just my opinion though.....
I would ditch the shrug and wear the cami tucked in. The shrug cuts off your upper body so when you tuck the cami into the skirt, it looks like you have a super-short torso.

i think the shrug is too much with the skirt. i like the idea of it tucked with the cami no shrug.
I definitely see the frumpiness. I would just wear the cami, but since it's a graduation, I'd like to have some kind of cover up on top to make the outfit more formal...plus I don't usually like showing my arms in spaghetti straps. Any other suggestions for a top? Would another type of shrug work? I'm open to ditching both pieces on top and going with something completely different. Also...what about shoes? I'm having trouble finding one's that'll match.
IF you can find a long, thin cami that can be tucked in and fit smoothly (it isn't fitting smoothly in the pic), and IF it can be tucked in down past hip level and IF the skirt is not at all see-through (so this won't show) then I am OK with cami-tucking and see where you are trying to go with the 50's silhouette. You have the right body to go with that look, as well. But I would stay away from any tucking if it shows through the skirt at all.
In the pics, is that where you will be wearing the skirt on your hips? If you wear it lower on your hips then I think the shrug is OK, but if you wear the skirt as it is in the pics I agree with other that the shrug look awkward. Have you thought about a girly, short-sleeved, fitted button down? That might work with the 50's thing.
EDIT: Forgot to say, the skirt is beautiful and look great on you! I really love the colours.

If you really like the shrug, maybe you can find a cami that matches the purple in the top of the skirt. That would make it look like you're wearing a dress with a shrug and wouldn't chop up your body so much. It's hard to tell from the pic how difficult that purple would be to match.
So I took your suggestions into consideration and did some shopping this weekend. I really liked Karina's idea of a boatneck sweater and found some sheer boatneck tops at oldnavy that I can layer over coordinating camis. I'm not thrilled with the look yet though - maybe it's because I can't figure out jewelery or shoes. Anyway, what do you think and how should I accessorize?
Yellow top over lavender cami (sorry for the blurriness!):
Lavender top over yellow cami:
I have yet to try the lavender cami under the cream shrug...I'm not thrilled with the cami because it has this cheesy lace design at the top and is a little too long for my torso. I'll try it anyway though just to see if the combination looks good. Any suggestions for accessories?
Man, I think I've spent more time planning this outfit than I have on most of my schoolwork
i like the second look much better, and i think the skirt looks great on you, by the way.
BUT, not to be a pain, but i really think that the skirt would look better with a sleeker top. either the boatneck tops alone, without the cami underneath, or some other sort of top that laid flat and didn't wrinkle as much throughout the torso. it looks as if the top of that skirt is gathered and i think the layered shirts/wrinkling takes the attention away from the top of the skirt. the first or last top that karina posted- maybe something like those would be better? either a purposely flowy material or more of a sweater-like material?
that's totally just my opinion though, so take it as you will.
regardless, congratulations on your graduation and im sure you will look great!
Thanks for all the compliments but I do agree with what Ritz says...there's something off about the cami wrinkling over the skirt. I would like to do a sleek boatneck top like the 3rd one Karina posted but, I think with my boobs and non-flat stomach, something purposely loose might be better (or at least more comfortable - I don't think I want to be thinking about sucking in my stomach all day!)
What about this? (in pale yellow, and I'd tie the sash around the back)
If not, maybe I'll just go for a boatneck sweater and see if I can make my body work with it.
