Engagement Photo Outfits - Help Needed - Updated with a dress for opinions
Permalink Closed

Engagement Photos Round 2 are coming up on June 1st.  Mike and I originally had not planned on doing photos in Houston but we have a little extra money in our budget and the cost to upgrade our photo package with the photographer is pretty cheap for the items we'll get with it.

So here we are again taking photos.  The last photos we took (the Disney ones in the Wedding section) we wore dark jeans with black shirts.  I want to do something different from that but not sure what to wear. hmm I think we will be taking pictures outside at a park in Houston and maybe also popping in at the zoo.  So anyone have any ideas?  Anything cute in the stores?  I'm not having much luck right now.

what I see on you is a simple cotton white to pale color sundress and him in jeans and a white to light color untucked oxford. maybe some flip flops or barefoot.  kind of what you would wear if you went on a picnic date in a park... romantic, classic, and casual.

Since you went casual with your other pictures, I would definitely wear something more dressy.

Here are a few  ideas of dresses I like that would photograph pretty and are classic enough not to date your pictures.

Thanks for the ideas.

I found this one on jcrew.com.  I'm not sure how the pleats will do on me though but I liked the colors it came in.  I have hips and boobs so I'm a little afraid of going too light with the colors as I don't want to add on any more poundage than what I already have.

And then this one:

But same thing with the pleats.

I haven't been in a J Crew in years.  Are these dresses in the store or do I just order them online and return what I don't like?  Also how true to size are their size charts?

What do yall think of this dress?  I'm trying to decide whether to keep or return it as well as to use it or not for these photos.  It was cute on so I am leaning towards keeping it and wearing it.  It went on sale today at Nordstrom so I'll be returning the Saks one and ordering from them.

I tried the Jcrew ones I posted about earlier and the pleats just weren't all that flattering.  I've been having a heck of a time looking for a plain a-line strapless dress in a solid color and in a non-jersey knit material.  I swear they were all over the place last year.

I really love those JCrew dresses. I got a similar one last year and I love it. I would recommend visiting your local JCrew store to see if they have them in stock. If not, they have a red phone in the store and you can order the dress from the store and have it shipped to your house and avoid paying shipping. IIRC, I believe you can return an item purchased online to the store, so you don't have to pay for return shipping in case it doesn't work out. HTH!

I did find one last week in the store and it made my hips look wide :(  It was so cute but those darn pleats.  Thoughts on the blue BCBG dress?

The BCBG one is cute, but it doesn't do much for me for some reason. I think a solid color with some cool jewelry might photograph better. That's my two cents though. smile.gif

I agree with NCshopper. The BCBG is cute, but I think a solid color might look better.

for example:

Thanks Claudia for the suggestions. I like the last 3 dresses you posted so I'll have to check them out and see if they are in my size.

I love this once Claudia posted.  It's just modern enough to look current but classic enough not to look dated when you celebrate your 20th anniversary.  Plus the color is gorgeous!

I'm with Boots on this one ( straight hot pink ) dress! I'm not a fan of this blue dress ( with the embroidery on the hem) at all!

I think you either need a straight dress or A-line that starts at your hips, not the waist! It'll flatter your waist & hips, especially since you write you have the hips & the boobs! ( Congrats to the husband to be!:)wink

I am not crazy about the blue dress; something just feels off about it to me.

The pink dresses Claudia posted are nice, I think I like the idea of a bright pink or some other summery kind of color.
