hmmm...inviting the boss

okay, so i am leaving my job in the next month and i'm not getting married until August.  i have worked here about three years and developed a nice (though not social) relationship with my boss.  she has been very supportive during some terrible times at my job.  anyway, i was planning to invite her to my wedding.  i don't know if she would come, but i think it's a nice gesture and i would be happy if she did, but i think there is probably only like a 30% or less chance she would attend

she is also leaving her job, today is her last day, and she just gave me a congratulations on your wedding card with a gift card for Pier One inside.  now i'm thinking inviting her to the wedding will look like asking for a gift when she already gave me one????

to invite or not to invite?

I would invite.  Apparently she is interested in your wedding and you as a person otherwise she wouldn't have given you a card.  Have you sent out the invites yet? I'm assuming no if its in August so you would be ok to put her on the list and send her one when its time to send the rest out.

Funny...I have the opposite opinion...I wouldn't invite. My reasoning...she gave you a card and a gift now to say good-bye because she doesn't intend on seeing you between now and the wedding. I'd send her a thank-you and leave it at that.

i say invite. she probably  assumed that she wouldn't be invited  hence the card & gift,  but i think if you invited her she'd be pleasantly surprised, and not turned off at  all. plus if her presence would make you happy then you should do it.
