Help, how do I get more use out of this??

Okay so here is my all time favorite peice (looks better in person).  You can't tell very well in the pic but the quilting is in thin shiny chain metal.  My bf got it for me from Saks last Chrstmas.  Problem is I'm having a hard time getting use out of it.  I've worn it only 3 times since I got it almost 4 months ago!  Can this purse be worn casually at all??  Or only to fancy'ish events and clubs?  I don't even particularly like wearing it to crowded clubs were there is posibility of cigarette burns  .  Is it sentenced to the Chanel dust bag and box forever?   The leather scratches soooo easy.  The shoulder chain itself scratches the leather if its rubbed up against it.  Is there any posibility for day time/spring/summer use?   Be honest I can take it.  I feel like its a young hip version of the classic chanel purse.  I really want to use it more, but how??  Outfit ideas please?

Oooh, that's pretty. I don't know if you're up to this but you might just have to let it get a few scratches - a bag like that deserves more wear than you're giving it, and a little 'personality' (i.e. wear) won't detract from a Chanel, esp. leather, which imo often looks better with some wear to it. I think that bag is also fairly versatile - it would go with jeans and a cool top easily and could snazz up a lot of otherwise casual outfits.

i agree w/ mia, i think scratches add character.  what kind of leather is it?  lambskin?  i've been debating getting the classic in black in the caviar leather that never shows scratches vs. the classic in red in lambskin that might get a scratch if you look at it the wrong way.  and i've decided to save up for the red because red's more me and the lambskin is just soo soft.  anyway, back to you--just wear it w/ whatever, it's so beautiful it can hold its own w/ any outfit, imo.

I got one for Xmas too (mine's the Caviar leather with big embossed Cs) and I have the same issues. I try to carry it around when the chances of it getting hurt are low. I'll take it shopping when I have on jeans, I've taken it to class, and to nice dinners and uncroweded bars. I don't take it to fancy events because I don't think it's as formal as an evening bag and I avoid clubs so I don't really have to worry about that.

I'm scared to use it as an everyday bag (yet) but I think you can definitely get more use out of it. You have a great bag that matches almost everything from jeans to nicer dresses so utilitze it!

I would just wear it out the way sfclinevandy described.  You could wear it with something like this, sort of uptown but funky:

modern wide leg trouser (solid)

I'm a nut job, but if I had that bag, I would carry it everywhere! I think the leather will look nice and have more character with a couple of scratches.

And where can I get a bf like yours? Mine freaked out at the thought of a bag costing $1k+.

Thanks for the comments. You guys are right. I am going to start wearing it out more.  I seriously need to get more use out of it and I guess a couple of sraches would give it some charecter. Never thought of it that way before.

Lilykind:  I had to ease the bf into the $1k+ purses idea.  We started out easy and worked our way up.  I've told him that now he's gotten himself into a pickle because he can't go backwards anymore. Heeheehee.

Lynnie:  I love the first outfit you posted.  I'm going to wear something simular out tonight and actually use the bag too!!

Sophie-that bag is absolutely to die for - I would wear it all the time - You are very lucky to have a bf who would get that!

Sophie, I have the same problem. I bought a classic Chanel bag over a year ago (thus fulfilling a 20-year dream) and have used it maybe half-dozen times. Part of the problem is that it is "out of sight-out of mind." I keep it wrapped and boxed and in my armoire.

When I bought it, the sale associate warned me that it wasn't an "every day bag." As it is by far the most expensive bag I have ever owned, it became a sort of object of worship. Another problem for me is that I think it far outclassses the rest of my wardrobe--although I live in a world populated by LV and other designer bags worn by women in sweats and track suits!

I'm glad you brought up this topic. As someone's aunt (not mine) used to say: "What if you got run over by a bus and you'd never worn your Chanel bag?"

So what if it does get scratched? Thanks for pointing out that scratches just add to the patina.
