i have some jeans that are about two sizes too big. they are distressed seven A pockets and i love them but they're huge. at first i used them as a sort of slouchy jean, but now they're too big for that. is there anyway they can be altered so that they are wearable again? they are mostly too big in the butt and waist, but i don't know if a tailor could alter the butt part of the jean without it looking weird.
any thoughts??
also, should i just take it to my cleaners or go to a more reputable tailor (they know how to hem jeans well there so i think they might do a good job but i've never had them do anything more difficult than that). would this job be difficult?
I've never done it and I know people say you can alter things up to two sizes, but I think it would change the way the back of the jeans look and especially with those pockets would be noticable. I say try to sell them and get new ones. Tis the price of getting skinny ;)
This is a hard one. Yes it can be done, but the pants have to be completely ripped apart and remade. Most will make the hiney area smaller by pulling the seams together in the hiney/girl part area and re-sew. BUT when you do this it changes the location of the pockets which can make the hiney area not look right. Make sense? To get away from the weird new pocket placement the outside hip seam also has to be ripped apart and the seam allowance taken in equally from the under hiney part and the hip part. By this time it has cost you about as much a new pair (on sale). I hope that made sense and I don't want to deter you if you truly want to make them work for you. My mom is a seamstress and refuses to do it, but sends her clients to a tailor in town. She tells me it not worth the work that most people are willing to pay.

thanks to both of you - that's very helpful. wow, i appreciate the details on how it could be done, sibeski. i'm not going to do it. your responses were perfect timing, b/c i am just about to head out to the tailors (for some easier alterations) so i'll leave those jeans at home. thanks again!!
my SO just had this done at our cleaners to a pair of Diesels. It cost $20 and she took them in a whole size. The pockets/butt look totally normal. My SIL does this to just about all of her jeans as well and they never look weird. I think it's worth a shot.

really?? wow, maybe i'll take them to an experienced/reputable tailor and just ask then. thanks! oh, and it's good to see you around again!
