as i posted a week ago, i purchased this Alexander McQueen jacket (in white) at the saks outlet for a great deal ($200, orig. $1400):
however, upon closer inspection, i've realized that there are a few "flaws" w/the jacket. first, there is a small tear on the left shoulder, on the neutral silk fabric area. it's not particularly noticeable when i have the jacket on (and most likely no one except me will know that the tear is there). second, the stitch/seam on the left lapel is a little loose, but i'm wondering if this could be easily fixed by a tailor. and third, the jacket can definetely use a good dry cleaning (although i'm hesitant to take it to any local dry cleaner for fear that they'll mess it up somehow).
of course, the pros of this jacket is that the fit is great and it just looks awesome when i put it on. but even tho $200 is a total steal for this jacket, i'm debating whether or not i should keep it b/c $200 is still a lot to spend on something that's not in perfect condition. what do you all think?
Were there any more in the store? I'd probably try to exchange it first. If there weren't any others and you're set on keeping it, I'd go back to off 5th and show them the damage and ask if they can give you a price adjustment on it (don't they usually take 10 or 15% off when something is damaged?). They might also be able to advise you on whether dry cleaning is feasible, etc.
The jacket is hot by the way. I'd probably keep it. If you ever tire of it I'm sure you could make something off it on eBay.

I would probably keep it. I'd find the best tailor in town (not a dry cleaner tailor), one that makes suits, does wedding dresses, etc. See what they have to say about the tears. My husband just tore the sleeve of his favorite shirt, and our tailor was able to fix it. It isn't noticible at all unless you are looking for it. A good tailor could probably also recommend a dry cleaner you can trust.
