I hate that too! At Gap we used to tell our customers to run the jeans through a cold cycle with a bit of vinegar. I've done it, no detergent just cold water and like 1/4 cup vinegar, it sets the dye (think of dying easter eggs). And no, your jeans wont smell.
Ive had the same problem.. always happens with dark denim before I've washed them alot. I also get smurf body and can see the color go down the drain when I shower.

I'm going to have to try this with my dark jeans, the dye rubs off on everything, and I've washed them several times. Did you use plain distilled vinegar?
I have this problem with 2 pairs of jeans and nothing so far has helped. I've washed them twice in cold water, then once again using a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle. Then I washed them in warm water because I read somewhere that it would help wash the excess dye out. That didn't help either. I wore one pair of the jeans to my boyfriend's house for Thanksgiving and ended up with blue dye all over my pale pink sweater. I had to sit on a napkin through dinner because I was afraid the dye would rub off on the chair!
If you find something that works for you please share! TIA
