One would think registering would be easy but not so much. Mike and I went to Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday and got about halfway through the store before they closed. We made it through pots & pans, frames, silverware and everyday dining (ie plates, bowls, etc)
So with that said I have a few questions that I was hoping yall could help with. How many placesettings of silverware and everyday dining did you register for? I am stuck between 8 and 12. The set of silverware we picked comes in settings of 4 and the dining stuff is individually purchased and not packaged in any way. We eat at home quite a bit and go through dishes like nothing so I'm afraid going with 8 we might be doing dishes all the time once we start having kids and people over. Right now it is mainly just the two of us for meals.
We will be going back this coming weekend to finish with bedding and bath. Typical salesman is saying to register for a minimum of 3 sets of sheets which sounds like one or two too many but what do I really know. Same sort of thing for towels. How many do you really need to register for before you start looking ridiculous?
Well, as someone who has (was) been married for 9.5 years, I would say go ahead and register for 3 sets of sheets. And plenty of towels too. The thing is, since you will be receiving all of these things at the same time, they will all wear out at the same time, more noticably with fewer duplicates. If you have more of each item, they will last a little longer.
I think 10 place settings is fine, but go for 12. Think about if something breaks. you'll have plenty of backup in a pinch. 8 is just not enough, IMO.
Do you like Pampered Chef? I don't sell it, but they have a really cool wedding registry...if I recall correctly, people's purchases for you count as "sales" for you, like throwing a party without the work, so you can get discounts if you buy additional merchandise. I like some of their serving pieces and "dots" casual dining too.

I am in the same boat. It isn't so easy! One thing that I came to realize is that you really can't register for too much. At the end of the day, if you get more than you want or need, you can return the gift to the store and get something else that you like or really need. Also, not everyone will order from your registry, you may get money (woohoo!) or something else from another store that you did not expect.
I think you should go with registering for 12 place settings. Right now you may not see the need for them all but I think you will in the future. And, you don't want to be doing dishes all the time!
I think registering for plenty of sheets and towels is smart because they do wear over time. Another tip that someone told me that I think is so smart was to register for nice white towels because you can bleach them and then they will be like new!
Good luck with it, I know it is a lot! Are you registering anywhere else? I was told to register at two or three stores to give your guests options and make it convienient for them. Here are some registry tips and answers I find helpful!
Thanks guys! I just don't want to feel like I'm registering for more than I should or looking too greedy. I never pay attention to my friends lists and I should have. Lesson learned!
I'm registering at Crate and Barrel and maybe Macy's or JC Penny's if I don't like the bedding and bath stuff at BB&B. We didn't really love anything in the bedding section and I don't want to settle because I'm too lazy to register elsewhere. Something to think about this weekend.
The white towels and bleach is something I've heard before too and sounds like a good idea. I will have to remember that this weekend.
How did the registering go this weekend? Did you find bedding that you liked at BB&B or did you find anything at Macy's or JCPenney?
I have spoken with a lot of my married friends about registering because I was worried that mine would look like too much to the guests also! They all said that I should register for a lot and that only people just married will really look into the amount - and only because they were just married, they still have that curiosity! Some of my married friends have told me that they wished they had thought of some of the stuff I registered for and then gave me additional ideas for the registry. My philosophy is - if you need it, register for it!!
You can always add/edit your registry online once it's in their system. I added a LOT to our BB&B and Macy's registries that I didn't find in the store. Over-register, because you usually get a discount on anything you buy yourself from the list after the wedding.
Definitely 12 placesettings. I only have 8 and I regret it especially since my pattern doesn't exist anymore (neither dishes nor flatware).
The logic on sheets is 3 - one on the bed, one in the wash, and one in the linen closet. But the more the merrier.
I have been doing that! I update, add and remove items from my registry all the time online. It is so nice to have this option and it relieved a lot of the stress I felt when I was in the store registering. I also am constantly checking to see if anything was bought from my registries! Most stores show who bought what, which is a really nice feature - lets me get a head start on writing thank you's if I have the time! It is also nice that stores like JCP have the instant updates so everything on the registry is always accurate!
