Since it is a night wedding and black tie, I would think a longer dress or a tea length in a darker color would be more appropriate. You could make that dressier with a black caplet or shaw and heels and jewelry.

I saw the Jcrew dress in person and it is VERY summer casual. Definately NOT okay for Black tie. I would look for something longer in a silky fabric. I think the black dress is okay, you could dress it up more with jewelry, shoes and a pashmina
This dress would be perfect! I'm a tad biased because I want it for myself, but alas, I have nowhere to wear it, so I will have to live vicariously through you.

that first pink one is cute, but way too casual for black tie. it's cotton, right? no dice.
the second black one is perfect, though. you can never go wrong with a little black cocktail dress at a black-tie event, even a wedding. it's the safest and best choice (imho), and the men will be wearing tuxes so you will be very appropriate.
i agree. the first dress is way too casual. and the rule about not being able to wear black to weddings is over--especially if it's evening and black tie. so if you see a black dress you can wear, don't worry about it--go for it!
