I had the day off yesterday so I decided to get some errands out of the way as well as pop into the mall and a few DSWs. In general I struck out at the mall - didn't buy a single thing. It is just like we were saying last week all the same junk and not so flattering for a high price point. Even Forever21 was a let down. DSW I kept finding half a pair of shoes that I liked. No idea where the other half was and didn't feel like asking for help because they usually aren't too helpful there.
So I did end up with some new accessories from Charming Charlie (a local accessory place in Houston). I am terrible with accessories so I went there hoping to find something to add to my clothes. I was very overwhelmed and almost walked out but I stayed and found a few really cute things.
I also found this DVF dress at Loehmans for $70. It needs a little altering here and there but not a bad find.

this ALWAYS happens to me at dsw!! sometimes i can find it like two or three aisles away. uggh.
alb wrote:wetbandit - can you review those sandals? i really need some comfortable thong sandals to replace my havaianas for everyday and those might work.
Sure! I've already worn them around the house a bit. They were a little tight in the upper straps (I have thick ankles or something), but after wearing them around a bit, they're starting to stretch out. They're not the most comfortable sandals - after wearing them for a while, my heel starts to hurt because there's not much padding in the heel, but I've definitely worn worse. They might get a little more comfy after I break them in some more.
I can give you a more detailed review after I really wear them if you like.
Also, if you go to zappos, they have several reviews for the same sandals that are just different colors.

thanks! if they're already uncomfortable, they won't work for me. if they get a lot better though let me know - they're really cute!
Hey Alb - I bought those DV sandals from last year. The biggest knock against comfort is that there is little padding (probably less than most flip flops), so your feet don't get a lot of support. With that said, I still wore the sandals shopping, out running errands, etc. and didn't have any problems. The shoes go with virtually everything, so that's a big plus. Hope that helps!

I was supposed to be looking for a hot pink birthday bag, and instead I ran into and impulse-bought this:
Dark grey (they call it graphite) leather oversized clutch.
I will wear it when I go out which is not so often, but I justified it because it was 70% off retail and it is pretty and classic enough to be timeless. I think it would be a nice vintage item in twenty years; maybe I can even pass it down to my amazing goddaughter someday ;)
By the way, I'm still getting a hot pink bag for my birthday. Shhh!

We bought armloads of books this weekend at a huge sale at the warehouse of an online bookstore. I can't even list or remember them all. We got more than $300 worth of books for less than $100. Here are a few:
This book is the companion to a BBC series I loved so much that it made me reconsider my retirement plans.
I was really impressed with the breadth of this book just based on the table of contents. It covers the environmental impact of diet, farming practices, water issues, waste - tons and tons of info.
This is a feminist retelling of the myth of Odysseus, told from the perspective of his wife Penelope.
This dude is considered one of the most enlightened humans who ever lived, and the book is mostly quotes and photographs so it's a quick read. (I want to be enlightened, but I'm pressed for time, so I need to make it snappy.)
