I was walking the mall with my mom the other day and noticed that practically every store has hippie clothes everywhere. I got a GC to Nordie's and was really excited to go check them out cause I haven't been in there in forever, but was really disappointed to see that the section I shop was hippie style too. I do like a few things, but the whole section was the same thing! Loose flowy tops, tye dye (sp?) tops, big skirts, um....those orange turquoise (sp?) jewlery, big vests, etc. whats going on?
Apparently, there isn't any originality in a lot of brands this days. I, too, find it SUPER disappointing- especially since nothing I've seen lately is at all my style. Unless, of course, I want to spend like $200 on a top, which I don't. haha.
yea really! I actually saw some cute Hudson's on sale for $99....but I don't want to go there. 1. I have some in my closet that I need to lose a few pounds to fit into again 2. I'm in need of tops!
I haven't seen all this "hippie" stuff but it surprises me that it's out there so much - boho was a while ago! We have to move on to something else now!

Those were my thoughts too when i read this. that's too bad though, tati. could you maybe use your gc in the shoe dept. or handbag section? those seem to be pretty good imo. or you could just hang on to it until things turn around.
I thought Free People wasn't doing so well, generally, but they appear to be big with Nordstrom. I think it's just a trend that--unfortunately--Nordstrom has taken on in a robust way. Probably just another manifestation of lack of inspiration and labels playing it safe. One thing I noticed is the section about which I think you are writing is so casual. Everything is super laid-back! At least in Charlotte, it's difficult to find a happy medium between Milly style and Free People.
I have a Nord GC too, and I resigned myself to the fact that I will need to wait a bit to use it.
Frankly, I find there is always an element of "hippie" in stores come springtime. I notice it every year. Must have to do with the whimsical qualities of warmer weather and everyone's desire to wear looser, lighter denim, gauzy white shirts and little sundresses.
